Trump Says Georgia’s Governor Is Hampering His Efforts to Win There
The New York Times ^ | Aug. 3, 2024, 11:00 p.m. ET | Neil Vigdor

Former President Donald J. Trump suggested without evidence on Saturday that Georgia’s Republican governor was hampering his efforts to win the battleground state in November, a claim that carried echoes of Mr. Trump’s attempt to overturn his defeat to President Biden there in 2020.

“In my opinion, they want us to lose,” Mr. Trump said, accusing the state’s governor, Brian Kemp, and its secretary of state, Brad Raffensperger, who is also a Republican, of being disloyal and trying to make life difficult for him.

At a rally at the Georgia State University Convocation Center in Atlanta, in a speech that lasted more than 90 minutes and that was peppered with grievances about his loss four years ago, Mr. Trump falsely claimed, “I won this state twice,” referring to the 2016 and 2020 elections.

Mr. Trump lost to Mr. Biden by roughly 12,000 votes in Georgia in 2020. Last year, the former president was indicted by an Atlanta grand jury on charges related to his efforts to subvert the results of that election in that state. On Saturday, he complained that he might not have ended up in legal jeopardy if Mr. Kemp and Mr. Raffensperger had cooperated with his attempts to reverse the 2020 results.

Mr. Trump added that he thought Georgia had slipped under Mr. Kemp’s leadership. “The state has gone to hell,” he said.

Representatives for Mr. Kemp, who indicated in June that he had not voted for Mr. Trump in the Republican primary this year, and Mr. Raffensperger did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The choice was Stacey Abrams. As much as I dislike Kemp, he’s still a ton better than Abrams.

Right? “without evidence” jumps right off the page as a dead give away of left wing bias. Trump grievances about Ga elections are valid. Kemp never forgave Trump for criticizing him for reopening the GA and didn’t mobilize his organization to help Trump win the state or save the senate seats. Kemp looked after himself though.

The problem is not Georgia voters. The problem is the Georgia ghetto vote (like Fulton County).

The problem in Georgia is similar to the problem in Illinois and New York State.

Ghettoes in the cities vote blue and they have very effective "get out the cheat vote" programs (See Stacey Abrams).

Nothing says "true conservative" like pushing EVs at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

I certainly believe so. All the way from Kemp installing that blonde Watusi Loeffler as Senator to Rattburger entering into that consent agreement with Democrats on how absentee ballots were to be handled. Kemp had the bully pulpit to stop it, and the Lt Gov Duncan recently proclaimed he’s been anti-Trump all along.

Collectively, they allowed the big Fulton County vote cheat and then allowed ANYBODY to vote in those Senate runoffs.

Imagine the 180 the media and others would have made if Trump had won Georgia by 12,000 votes

They will have to, and will try, to really step up their game this time

And as I said before if Trump wins Georgia by 12,000 or even 100,000 the cries of election denial will be replaced with “verified” cries of election fraud and interference
Russia, Russia, Russia…..

If by “winning” you mean cheating and fraud, getting in bed with your supposed political enemies, and general gutter politics you are correct.

That’s what we need Trump to do /s

It seems something changed with the Rep. hierarchy in Georgia after Kemp’s daughter’s boyfriend was killed in a car bombing (still unsolved I believe). Evidently, he and the rest of them decided to “play ball” afterward.

How many net positive votes does this approach by Trump yield him in Georgia? If none, it’s a bad plan.

To be honest I thought some of the language used at the rally was not helpful.

I know President Trump likes to speak his mind but there are ways of saying things that get a point across without building up his negatives.

I would rather he bring up Kamala lied to the American people about the health of Biden and that she is Blackfishing her ethnicity. Instead of calling her Dumb

Also going after a popular governor does not help. He should be working that behind the scenes mending bridges.

Kemp was in on the election steal in 2020. That much was obvious. He got away with it and will do it again.

The usual NYTimes bias also appears: “Former President Donald J. Trump suggested without evidence...” followed by a non sequitur, Trump saying, “In my opinion...”

Georgia voters need to deal with Kemp and Ratscum in the primary. It’s too late once they are in the general election.
