According to a statement released by the University of Exeter, an international team of researchers, including Mark Robinson and Jose Iriarte of the University of Exeter and Javier Aceituno of the University of Antioquia, compared images of animals found in the Colombian Amazon on Cerro Azul in the Serranía de la Lindosa with animal bones uncovered in nearby archaeological excavations. The rock art images, drawn with ocher on 16 rock panels on a remote hilltop, are estimated to be about 12,500 years old. Study of the animal remains revealed that the prehistoric population consumed a diverse diet of fish, mammals, and reptiles. But the proportions of the numbers of animal bones did not correspond with the prevalence of 22 different animals, such as deer, birds, peccary, lizards, turtles, and tapir, represented in the more than 3,000 images on the six rock art panels in the study. Robinson and his colleagues therefore suggest that the artwork is not about hunting. Rather, the researchers noted that some of the figures combine human and animal characteristics. They think that the artwork may reflect a complex mythology of transformation between animal and human states, perhaps similar to mythologies present within modern Amazonian communities. Read the original scholarly article about this research in Journal of Anthropological Archaeology.

Most rock art was created by children who were told to “go out and play.” This looks like a blackboard used to teach kids about the world.
Yeah.nope.

Don't tell these folks, they're probably under enough stress already:

It’s amazing what you can get on Amazon these days.
Although the work is not signed, I can say with confidence it’s not a Bob Ross piece.
They had evolutionary theory back then?
Amazing how much stuff dates back to about 12,500 years ago.
Almost life something catastrophic force people to adapt to their changing environment.
It says “you are what you eat.”
FWIW, ocher is one heck of a pigment.
They’re going to need to sandblast that because pressure washing isn’t going to cut it.
“I can say with confidence it’s not a Bob Ross piece.”
I couldn’t find a parody of Bob Ross doing cave art...
Well, that’s one way of getting out of doing chores. But not creative/artistic enough to use a variety of colors.
Which is surprising.
Looks like the tribe did all of that in a short time frame, and then moved on. Or ran out of rock face. :^)
Prime Day Specials?
How did they get up there?
And be stable long enough to create those intricate drawings?.....................
Magic mushrooms — they levitated right up there. ;^)
That reminds me, when is my delivery due...
