Can anyone suggest an app to block unknown callers on my android phone please?
Don’t answer/reject the call

Hold your (anonymous) calls please and close the thread. That is THE only way to deal with anonymous calls.
Totally agree.
Looks like you got some good advice here, though.
“got some good advice here, though”
Absolutely.....I think the best was get rid of the damn thing altogether LOL!
My Android phone has a ‘do not disturb’ feature. The only calls that ring through are from people on my contacts list. The calls still come through, they just don’t ring. You’ll still get a visual indication if you happen to be looking at the phone at that moment. Different Androids have different features. See if you have this one.
Doing banking on your smartphone is not a great idea anyways, lol. Another thing that really pisses me off is having no control over your voicemail. You should be able to turn your voicemail OFF.
Yeah someone suggested the do not disturb so that’s where I’m gonna start and see how that goes. Thanks 👍
I had a friend just last year have his and his wife’s separate accounts (Chase) wiped out.
LOL! Mine are concerned about my expiring auto insurance and rain gutters if I got water poisoned at Camp Lejeune.
I now have 16 auto repair insurance accounts!!!
Far as I can tell, blocking “unknown” doesn’t block any call that doesn’t come in as “Unknown.” Which is none of them. I get plenty of spam, and always block AFTER the call, but even that doesn’t always work.
And yes I do have block unknown on in the settings.
There should be (probably isn’t) a setting by which you can block anyone who’s not in your contacts.
I have an Iphone. I’ve set my phone to send any caller not in my contacts list to voice mail. Works great. If they’re in my contacts list, my phone will ring. If not, then they go to voice mail. If it’s important, they will leave a message.
My telemarketing calls have gone to almost zero. Telemarketers will not take the time to leave a message. I’ve not missed any important calls.
I've tried ignoring him, being mean to him and telling him about Jesus but every time all he does is silently hanging on the line for 20 seconds, altho twice he hung on for a few minutes when I had him listen to the sermon I had playing.
I finally got rid of him by holding the phone up to the speaker and playing this funny youtube middle eastern parody song called Mr Toot
I have no idea why this worked but after 3 applications he has not called since.
i thought block unknown actually meant, Block Unknown!
if i dint call it or if it’s not in my contacts, dump it.
but nope, damn
I’ve been using Robokiller with excellent results. If they leave a voice message it will record it.
I’m about ready to back to a typewriter and postage. And yes, I still have a nice tuned up portable typewriter.
“I have had a telemarketer stalker hounding me for 2 years.”
Telemarketer. What is he trying to sell you?
If a call comes in and they immediately hang up when the voicemail activates I Know It’s Just Junk.. if they leave a message I will listen and if it’s something important or that I need to return a call I will. That’s my filter.
I get 4 or 5 spam calls per day.
I read not too long ago that if you pick up it tells their computer that somebody is at that number and you will continue to get phone calls but I have also hardly ever answered those phone calls and I still get those phone calls so I don’t know what to tell you.
Just to expand on this:
Often times your number is generated randomly, or sequentially. It is fed into a predictive dialer. It will dial your number in order to present the call to the next available telemarketer,
The second you answer your phone the number in the file is listed as “live”. This means it goes to a telephone that is answered by a human. It’s like sending up a flare to a telemarketing company.
Now, that number (your number) will be stored in a file of live numbers. It means it will get recycled over and over; fed into the next list of calls. Knowing the numbers are live makes the subsequent calls much more efficient. The company KNOWS there are living people home and they can skip all of those “dead” numbers. This means you will get called more.
Now that the company has a big list of “live” numbers they will sell those lists to other companies. This means MORE calls coming to your phone.
If you don’t recognize the number don’t answer. After a few attempts, the computer system at the telemarketer will either put your number in a low efficiency list or they will simply delete the number.
Obviously, you want to be able to see the caller id and be aware of who “should” be calling you. I know many of us were programmed over years to respond to a ringing bell, but you actually don’t have to answer strange numbers. If they want you, they will leave a message, send a text, or call back. Most businesses will have the proper caller ID.
