Have the Olympics lost their luster? Paris will provide the answer.
The Washington Post ^ | July 21, 2024 | Les Carpenter

For parts of three decades, Bob Costas was the television face of the Olympics in the United States, leading NBC’s coverage of 11 Games and talking Americans through celebration, scandal and even a bomb in Atlanta. Eight years after his last Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Costas believes the Games have lost some of the magic that once made them mandatory viewing.

Maybe it’s because the past three Olympics were held in distant Asian time zones while America slept. Or perhaps it’s the sense that the two most recent Games, held in pandemic Tokyo and Beijing, seemed to happen less because of sport and more to meet the contractual obligations of sponsors and television networks. Or it might be the uncomfortable stench of human rights abuse swirling about the Beijing Games in 2022, followed four days later by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The Olympics, he said, need “to get their groove back.”

In 1984, the Los Angeles Games saved a bankrupt and demoralized Olympic movement with an innovative self-funded approach that launched a golden era of booming broadcast rights and sponsorships that led to financial successes in cities such as Barcelona, Atlanta and London.

The Olympics ‘died’ for me decades and decades ago. When its supposedly ‘amateur’ athletes made it their lifes’ goal and meaning just to win a gold and get rich.

I also got to see some of the inner workings when I worked inside and around the Olympic Village campus in 1996 in ATL. Disgusting.

Olympics in Paris?

No longer the city of light, but a city of public urination.

Holding the Olympics in a surrender monkey piss pot?

ABC started that in a small way but once NBC took over that went into overdrive.

The last time I had any interest in the Olympics was the 1976 boxing team.

“Are the Olympics woke?”

I wont say they are woke. Just think, Break Dancing is a new sport introduced to the 2024 games. You be the judge.

Eric Rudolph was there for a reason.

I am boycotting the Olympics because they are destroying our planet as thousands of athletes and spectators all over the world are flying there....

While claiming they are saving the planet.

Hypocrites disgust me.

I used to enjoy watching some events in both the winter and summer Olympics. I didn’t enjoy listening to announcers, in love with the sound of their own voices, gabbing over the entire event. I don’t plan to watch anymore.

I am personally boycotting the Olympics until they agree to make cardboard tube fighting an Olympic sport.

I haven’t watched that clown show since that skier fell on the ski jump and became the opening scene for Wide World Of Sports. And I haven’t watched pro foolsball since free agency came in.

The tickets are way too expensive. I went to Paris to visit my daughter this year but made sure to go in May a couple of months before the price gouging overly heavy police force and chaos.
These high profile events are almost exclusively for the globalist elites.
A lot of people won’t go to Paris in August that would have in a normal year.

Talking heads, commercials, talking heads, sob stories, commercials, "In the next hour..." a glimpse of sports, another commercial.
Why bother?

The Olympics committed suicide when they began openly allowing professional athletes to participate.

Of course the civilized world had been tacitly overlooking the fact that athletes from Soviet blok countries always had been professionals (and exceptions were made for European and South American countries in basketball because they didn’t have university basketball, as did America), but the games lost all distinction from professional sport at Barcelona 1992. And professional sport is better competition without all the political falderal.
