Kamala and Newsom 12th amendment
US Constitution | 7/18/24 | me

Total vanity, but if Brandon bows out and kamala becomes president she can't appoint newsom as VP, since they are from the same state.

That’s the last thing we need, is the alphabet mafia in the White House.

She could declare herself a resident of DC. It would suit her.

One would need to change their state of residency as Bush/Cheney 2000 did. They were both Texans, but Cheney changed to Wyoming.

It is indeed. He is as Left as they come, but passes himself off as mainstream - adequate and brilliant marketing. He is going to be a problem nationally - if not this election cycle definitely in the future. He was never put on the defensive and was able to cast the Republican as “extreme” the whole race and the Republican had far fewer resources to fight back or define himself - it was Beshear who should have been on the defensive.

This is why Cameron should have been fully funded and national attention paid to our governor’s race by the conservative media / talk show circuit nationally. But it was pretty much ignored. Leaving Beshear on the bench was a huge mistake.

Thanks for pointing that out, because newscasters never said why not.

My guess is that she could get away with claiming to be a D.C. resident if she changes her voter registration (just like Cheney did). But Newsom has already said he’s not interested.

One person not mentioned thinks they are "owed" the seat.

Butigieg’s been mentioned

Really wish that hadn't been mentioned. Theres cringe worthy and then theres electrifying horror. This is the latter.

Your wording makes it clear that you are talking about Biden resigning as President (as per the 25th Amendment), and Harris succeeding him - not about Biden deciding to not run for a second term, and Harris becoming the new Dem. candidate.

In that case, I would ask you to please cite the passage in the Constitution that expressly prohibits a sitting President from filling a vacancy in the Vice Presidency with a person from his/her own state.

Regards,

“Newsom has his sights on 2028.”

Then-VP Vance will mop up the floor with The Gav... though the floor might then to be de-greased after Gavvy’s hair gel drags across it.

Let’s address one point. Biden is President until January 20th whether he runs for reelection or not. He isn’t resigning from office.

Harris or Biden, what’s the difference? They’re both brain dead idiots.

yes she can. The prohibition is on them receiving electoral votes from the state which can be avoided if one changes address ala Cheney when he “relocated’ from Texas to wyoming

At the top of the list of the people I blame for that is Mitch McConnell. He owns the Republican party here. That means he’s responsible. The way the whole campaign was handled had to be with his tacit approval.

Just my opinion

Home. It’s a beautiful place.

True, and 45 years there at the farm south of Gainesville, midstate near everything not Miami/Disney. The line in American Girl, “she could hear the cars go by out on 441, like waves crashing on the beach” is my back porch.

Feels like I’m still visiting in western Colorado.

How long have you been there now? When we moved to Indiana, it took us several years to feel like we weren’t visitors, maybe 3 or 4, even though we had moved from Ohio. We knew so little about it. Still learning, too.

In Western Colorado, three years come September, after looking for house/land for two years, coming and going.

It’s getting better, once this political season is over.
