Did the Assassin's Rifle Have a Scope On It or Not?
Nikos1121

Posted on 07/15/2024 11:06:57 AM PDT by nikos1121

I'm trying to get a straight answer on this. I've heard two podcasters say that the would-be assassin's gun had an iron site, meaning NO SCOPE.

Yet, there are no official photos anywhere of the actual rifle, like we had with Oswald's.

My grandkids, 10 and 12, are deer hunters. I don't go out with them anymore, but my son does.

It's not easy to get within 150 yards of your prey, but if you do and you have a scope on your rifle, even my grandkids will produce a kill shot 9 out of 10 times, if the target is stationary.

OTOH, with an iron site, i.e. without a scope, a kill shot at 150 yards is closer to 1 out 10, if at that.

I say this, because if the assassin had a scope, Trump by all rights should be dead, and the only explanation would be pure luck or in my opinion divine intervention.

DOES ANYONE KNOW FOR SURE IF THE RIFLE HAD A SCOPE?

PLEASE, DON'T POST GOOGLE SEARCH PHOTOS THAT PURPORT TO BE THE ACTUAL RIFLE, AS SOME PHOTOS OUT THERE DO NOT HAVE A SCOPE ON THEM, BUT ARE NOT LISTED AS THE OFFICIAL RIFLE.

Asking the hunters out there for comments here.

Yes, that’s probably what happened.

The Malveaux-Boydd shooters may give good first hand marksmanship tips on the AR-15.

If that really was a picture of him lining up the shot, I’d say iron sights on an AR. The scope would generally be fairly high above an AR, and one should have been visible.

When I was younger and had better eyes, I hunted deer with a new lever action Marlin with no scope. I could shoot a cloverleaf at 100 yards, that is, 3 bullet holes touching when I fired three shots. I’m not bragging, it’s not that hard a shot with a good rifle and good ammunition. Groups were hardly ever larger than 2-2.5 inches at 100 yards.

Almost any modern lever action deer rifle will shoot groups of 4 inches or often less at 100 yards if the shooter is proficient. I don’t think an AR-style rifle is easy to shoot from the prone position with iron sights. Fortunately this execrable hell-bound jerk was just not a good shot, anyway, and decided to use the “mighty and fearsome AR.” That made the shot even harder. Maybe Lee Harvey Oswald will give him some shooting lessons in hell.

Talking about the bad guy’s gun. not the Leo shooters.

If I had to guess at the LEOs, I would guess 6.5 or maybe 300 blackout?

If a cop just climbed up a ladder to look at you I would bet adrenaline dump made it a difficult shot.

I heard the shot was hurried as a result, and this may have help in saving Trumps life.

Yes, but another 50 yards make it a bit harder don’t you think?

I think what you’re saying is at 100 yards you’d get 10 out of 10 within the size of a softball, and from 150 probably the size of a good-sized cantaloupe?

Really?

I can pop a metal plate @ 300 yrds iron sites and mostly hit the plate at 500 yrds iron sites.

Scope does make it easier...

Golf balls at 150 aren’t that hard. Aim small, miss small.

There was one guy at the presser yesterday says the perp was outside the perimiter????

Outside the perimeter? That perimeter is is anything within eyesight of The President and a bit beyond.

How in the Ho Lee Phuk is that possible?

I’ve been to Trump rallies and snipers are everywhere, including in the hills surrounding.

Security is actually visible for miles before you even get to a rally venue.

I felt safe, as well, unconcerned for The President’s safety

Moreover, there was a helicopter circling the event

The building 20 feet behind the dead dude is actually one story higher and begs the question “Why wasn’t a team on top of those buildings?” We know the answer.

Moreover, there is a 90 foot water directly to the east and overlooking all the buildings where dead was and he would have been easily seen if a team was on that water tower.

It is only 100yrds to the east. https://www.google.com/maps/place/615+Whitestown+Rd,+Meridian,+PA+16001/@40.8585856,-79.9698802,577m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m6!3m5!1s0x88337d9ebe29308f:0x1b4bca6251cd761e!8m2!3d40.8585186!4d-79.9699773!16s%2Fg%2F11ckqj_ky9?entry=ttu

No one on building to secure it.

No one overlooking to secure it.

So… a guy just decides to show up at a rally and take a potshot at PDJT… and he looks around for a spot that wasn’t covered by USSS and… well whadaya know! He’s in luck. A handy barn roof with no-one on it. And his rifle happens to be sighted in for the distance to the stage.

Now, let’s just see if he can get up there with a rifle without being spotted. Well whaddaya know! Another lucky break! Wait… he was spotted and pointed out to security, Well whaddaya know! Three times lucky! Security blew it off.

Oops. His luck ran out. He was shot deader’n a doornail. Tsk, tsk. Too bad. Can’t question him now.

Gonna be lots of stuff out there

Fact is “it should have never happened “

That it did is inexplicable and no answer will be acceptable

Snipers have an Area of Operation

In that AO are Squares that they are responsible for scanning hostiles and intelligence

Each Square also has math notes for distance, elevation, declination, etc

This was not a slipup

IMO/IME

Average shooting is @ 1.5-2” / 100 yards.
Good shooting is @ 1”/ 100 yards
REALLY Good shooting is @ .25-.5”/ 100 yards.

Assuming a decent set up.

“For a red dot or iron sights, a head shot at 200 years is still doable, body shots easy.”

I prefer handguns to rifles for shooting. Hadn’t shot a rifle (outside of a couple of refresher training in the USAF) in 20 years when, in prep for a deployment, I did a course with an iron sighted M-16 at an Army course. Hit all my pop-up targets (human sized) at 150 & 200 yards.

Haven’t fired a rifle since. Still love shooting revolvers and have reluctantly accepted Glocks and a Springfield Hellcat as good guns.

with nerves, breathing heavy and adrenalin, getting windage close. it is a different game. All bets are off.

Per an earlier post, I think the shot was rushed when the local cop spotted him, so yes, that probably upset his game. Windage is not significant at that short distance, unless its really howling, which it didnt look like it to me. I usually am not even thinking about windage inside of 300 yards unless its steady and over 15mph. And I will admit that I am not an expert at reading windage anyway. On 300 yards and longer, I usually account for spin drift and otherwise ignore winds. For me this has been more successful than trying to factor in wind.

I don’t recall.

I was 14 and won a markmanship award for a 5 out of 5 hit using my stepfathers Garand.

It's not easy to get within 150 yards of your prey...

Seriously? What kind of terrain? 15 yards is easy for me, still-hunting the Oregon coast. Kids need to learn wind and scent discipline. And maybe be quieter.

Hobby helicopter drones are what $100 on amazon?
with more than sufficient resolution.

HOW is it POSSIBLE that there were not swarms of these all over the area, being monitored and info relayed to the Leos on the ground?

I don’t doubt your story for a minute. I think you can perfect your aim.

This guy was probably startled by that cop who approached him, then turned and shot quickly. His shots were scattered.

Why am I asking? Because, if he had a scope on his rifle, then it is all the more a sign to me that God himself, saved Trump.
