Joe Biden Meets With Kamala Harris as Replacement Talk Grows
Newsweek ^ | 7/3/2024 | Kahleda Rahman

President Joe Biden will have lunch with Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday as he faces growing pressure to drop out of the 2024 race following his disastrous debate performance last week.

The 81-year-old Democratic president has signaled that he has no intention of stepping aside, despite his weak debate performance against Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee, on Thursday.

Biden's poor showing sparked an immediate panic among Democrats and further highlighted concerns about his age and capacity to lead the country for another four years.

Harris is among the top contenders being floated to replace Biden at the top of the Democratic ticket, should he step aside. The meeting is closed to the press.

On April 27 Vice President Hubert Humphrey entered into the race but did not compete in any primaries; instead he inherited the delegates previously pledged to Johnson and then collected delegates in caucus states, especially in caucuses controlled by local Democratic bosses.

Who would stop them? They control all the means of federal enforcement.

Things are changing as we progress but I’ve felt that way for
a long time. Just a little difference in happening.

Biden re-elected with Harris as VP.
At some point in the new cycle Biden steps down and Harris
becomes President. Depending upon timing it could be for one
term or two. If before the mid-term it becomes one term. If
after the mid-term date then it can be for two elections.

Maybe they do, but SCOTUS is still a vital and integral part of this picture.

SCOTUS has issued favorable decisions so far for Trump. I expect more to come.

> Doesn’t candidates have to be in the primary to be on ballot? <

Not at all. The candidate just has to have the party’s nomination. And since delegates vote on that nomination, you’d want to go through the primary process and get as many delegates as possible.

Delegates must vote for their pledged candidate on the first round of voting (DNC rules). But if no one wins on the first round, delegates can vote for whomever they want. I think the same goes if their candidate drops out.

So a convention can actually nominate a person who never participated in a single primary.

Thats my understanding of the process, anyway.

For Democrats, they need Joe to be removed as a factor. He was behind before the debate and I don’t think there’s any recovering. Someone steps over Harris, and it creates more infighting, so it might as well be her who goes up against Trump. The only question is does Biden resign the presidency as well, which probably would be the smartest thing (as he can’t do the job), but dropping out of the race and resigning would be one heck of a bitter pill to swallow for him, so that’s the only aspect I think would not fly.

They keep referring to his ‘poor performance in the debate’ like it was just that, a bad night on a debate.

It was waaay beyond that.

It was an absolute disaster. He was lost and it showed the world, not just America, that they have been lying to us for 4 years.

They are debating whether to keep him or get rid of him?

What a conumdrum!

Either way he’s toast!

If he’s too feeble and senile to be a candidate, then he’s too damn feeble and senile to be President of The United States!

He must resign now......................

I hope the 25th Amendment was part of that discussion. Will he quit on his own or will she and others have to act?

There is no explaining it away. She’d just run on identity politics.

How many primaries did Humphrey win?

I meant to say primaries and caucuses. In 1968 there were relatively few primaries. In 1968 Humphrey used Favorite Son proxy candidates in several states, so while he wasn't in the primary under his own name, the Favorite Son candidate won the delegates (e.g. Ohio). The voters knew what they were getting. Humphrey was also doing fine in the polling as well.

Biden has ignored SCOTUS decisions.

Biden has also pooped his depends in front of the Pope, has fallen down a lot, has to be led off stage, disgraced himself at the debate and so much more.

Maybe he ignored SCOTUS decisions because his dementia caused him to forget.
