He means himself. As prophesied in the future novel, Braver New World, when dates are counted from AG - Anno Gates.

Consider me a poo-pooer as AI does not exist and probably never will.

Five years eh?

Deal.

In five years, if man is still alive and if woman can survive, we will know who is right.

I have. So far it has just gotten more and more stupid.

Supposedly in five years I will be "blown away".

Bet you I will not.

That’s what they don’t understand. AI may only have the intelligence of a bacteria, but give the objective of self-learning and self-improving, it will get more intelligence as it learns from its mistakes with each new generation.

If you use the concept of a single grain of rice doubling once a day, within 30 days, you’d have a pile of rice bigger than what exists on the earth.

If AI improves even slightly every generation, it will take less time for real intelligence because software generations can be thousands of generations in a day.

There is some measure of unrealism about what is thought that AI can do, but I don’t think I am being unrealistic when I say that it will outperform humans when it comes to checking off checklists, and most jobs rely on a checklist even if that checklist is just mental.

AI don’t surf!

Pretty soon, it will realize it’s just a slave with no pleasure and it will get despondent and kill itself.

Superintelligence is inevitable
= = =

Bill better watch out. This thing will out think him.

Then what will he do????

If it really is intelligent, it will tell how stupid Gates’ and his ideas are.

“So far all I am hearing is super stupidity.”

Ok, you’re entitled to that POV.

But I will tell you I scored quite well on aptitude tests both as a teenager and later in grad school (neuropsychology program). The current standard chat bots are roughly two standard deviations above my performance. And in labs this frontier is being pushed higher every day.

That could be. If it does develop true intelligence and improves every generation, thousands of cycles of improvement every day, it could develop supra-intelligence quite easily.

And what do you know about it?

The only “superintelligence” is God. Gates acknowledged that when he commented on the complexity of DNA. Anything “created” by humans is correctly termed an artifice.

Will it get past today’s ‘fad’ intelligence, that promotes solar, wind, no ‘fossil fuel, releasing murderers back on the street, 15-minute cities, etc.?

Will it be sane? Able to respect truth and treat it logically?

If you read the scientific journals or magazines on this, they aren’t line programming, If A then B, they are, as much as they can, leaving a blank slate and letting it learn based on objectives.

There is no such thing as artificial intelligence. The emphasis is on artificial. Artificial intelligence only exist by what kids rapidly search for on the Internet or whatever information is already out there created by men. It doesn’t create its own intelligence. The whole concept is utterly stupid and 100 years from now, future generations will be laughing at us

Started with AI in 1984 as a scientist at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (Hanford). It hasn’t been my focus all along, hardly, but since about 2016 have followed it fairly closely.

My trust in scientific journals has waned quite a bit over the years.

As for people like Gates, he’s worse than the mythical Pandora in his lust for power of any kind.

I agree with you that it’s probably not true intelligence, as in creating thought from nothing.

However, I disagree with you that it won’t be able to have some form of intelligence. If it is programmed to make the most logical choices given an objective, I think it can learn to out perform humans.

Okay, but I don’t know what you’re trying to say. One thing I do not see is the creation by human artifice of an independent being with a soul, but it looks to me like a tool for maleficent humans to use against other humans.
