Jonesing for lobster salad while out in the Hamptons?

It’s a bisque-y proposition.

Of course, lobster salad is a summertime staple in the land of money-is-no-object.

But at beloved East Hampton delicatessen the Red Horse Market, they’re charging $120 per pound for the delicacy.

Store manager Christian Pineda told The Post he’s only gotten complaints “from some of our customers” about the lobster salad.

Most patrons, though, are willing to shell out big bucks.

Can he justify the markup beyond ‘these morons will pay it’?

Does not matter, if they don't like the price don't buy it.

We went on an Alaskan cruise last summer and Alaskan King Crab was $75/pound...IN ALASKA!

Dealt with the same pricing issue with salmon in Seattle. The same salmon in Seattle was $28 per pound compared to $15 per pound in Maine.

Not ‘out east’ in season the lobster was likely in the water 48 hours earlier. And $120 is and has been the going rate give or take 10 bucks for five years. A lobster roll with 1/3 pound of lobster goes for 39 bucks in a South Fork or North Fork eatery.

Sam's Chowder House in Half Moon Bay, CA. I don't think you get anywhere near 1/3 pound. It's really good, but at $32.50 with no sides it's a treat every couple years, if that. THIRTY TWO bucks for a freaking SANDWICH!!

A pound of blue crab meat has gotten very expensive.

160k a year is not all that high. I make more than that and would never pay that much for lobster.

The uber wealthy have accountants to work the tax system to make it appear they make almost nothing at tax time. Measured by net worth, I'd bet Hamptonites are mostly well above the top 1%. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Good for you.

Do you know anything about Omaha Steaks? They have commercials on TV and seem to have good prices for what you get. I’ve never known of anyone who purchased from them.

“.. unless you don’t believe in private property ...“

What is the matter with some of you people? I worked in his business. There is a marketplace. There are normal standards followed. There are general customer attitudes and expectations. That’s all I’m talking about. Where the hell does constitutional questions of private property come into it?

Don’t. My stepsister used to send me a box every Christmas. I was never impressed and thought she was wasting her money. There’s way too much packaging, and not much product.

If he decides to set his price too high he’ll have a hard time staying in business ... that’s his, and only his, choice ... nobody is forced to pay his price ...
