Jonesing for lobster salad while out in the Hamptons?
It’s a bisque-y proposition.
Of course, lobster salad is a summertime staple in the land of money-is-no-object.
But at beloved East Hampton delicatessen the Red Horse Market, they’re charging $120 per pound for the delicacy.
Store manager Christian Pineda told The Post he’s only gotten complaints “from some of our customers” about the lobster salad.
Most patrons, though, are willing to shell out big bucks.

But it’s the part-time, summer billionaires they’re catering to.
Economy’s fine...pay up.
Makes me wonder how much per pound the Obama’s are paying in Martha’s Vineyard.
(sigh) poor rich people.
Also in the past, almost 75% of our King Crab was from Russia. So yes, of course, the US government stopped allowing it to be imported.
This war has impacted me personally in at least three ways. It was really disappointing that the only Antonov-225 was destroyed, I really like King Crab, and Russia used to sell MiG-29 edge of space rides for 20k.
All very disappointing.

120 a pound sounds like way too much.
“Why is justification needed?“
Markup reflects the costs that go into presenting the product. The rough standard back in the day as far as I knew was one hundred percent. Something costs you a buck you try to charge two for it. Did this guy just pull 120.00 out of his ass or is he getting hit by his suppliers? I can tell you this, if his suppliers get wind of a monster markup like that THEY will mark up to get into the party.
160k a year is not all that high. I make more than that and would never pay that much for lobster.
I thought lobster had hit all time lows in price just a few years ago. This 120/pound BS is what’s killing the economy. Pricing everyone and everything into recession. This greed for the moment is going to plunge the economy into a big recession/ depression. We never really fixed 2007/2008 just kicked the can. Corporate greed is off the charts. All time record profits and wages stagnate or more offshoring. Very shortsighted.
Income is but one aspect of The Hamptons.
Google Search also tells us this.....
The median listing home price in East Hampton, NY was $2.8M in May 2024,
or buy a lobster- boil it, make it into a salad when cool- around $15-20
Probably about $90 or so.
Google Search says....
How expensive is Wagyu beef? Certified, Grade A Wagyu beef can cost as much as $200 per pound.

Probably more than this at the Hamptons.
I was on a flight crew flying from one of the Hawaiian islands. Our private caterer there would fulfill our crew meal requests and anything ranging from sushi to seared tuna to filet mignon with a baked potato was the norm. Our meals were outrageously expensive but soooo good!
I ordered a quart of lobster bisque for the three of us and when enroute to the states, I was looking over the invoice and saw that it was $200. I asked my passengers if they would like to begin their meals with lobster bisque and thankfully they said yes. I didn’t think I could explain that charge to my supervisor!
“The ironic thing is, its probably made from frozen lobster processed in vietnam.”
Don’t quit your day job.
Harris Teeter here has Lobster Wednesdays - you get a cooked lobster, a baked potato and corn on the cob along with lemon and sour cream for $14.99.
The lobsters are so sweet and fresh - better than any restaurant we have had in a while.
I was at an Amish meat market this week. They had Tomahawk Steaks. Out of curiosity I asked her how much one would cost. $90.00 each. I bought 3 T-bones for $80.
I get Crab Salad at Lowe’s Foods for $5.49 a pint...

Does it actually contain crab or is it imitation crab (processed hake or haddock)?
The income is from their trust funds.
“160k a year is not all that high.”
That includes the Filipina housekeepers an Hispanic gardeners.
