Food authorities in Denmark have recalled three types of spicy instant noodle products imported from South Korea over possible risks of “acute poisoning.” Consumers are asked to discard them or return the noodles to the retailer.
The noodles are made by Seoul-based Samyang Foods, one of South Korea’s largest companies, and sold across the globe. The recalled noodles include Buldak Samyang 3 x Spicy & Hot Chicken, Buldak Samyang 2 x Spicy & Hot Chicken and Buldak Samyang Hot Chicken Stew.
The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration said the products contain an overly high dose of capsaicin, an active ingredient in chile peppers but also a chemical that can be a neurotoxin and a health hazard.
Children and teenagers in Denmark have been daring each other on social media to eat “a strong bowl of noodle soup,”

I have both of those in our house due to two teen daughters who love spicy ramen.

Wussies. Every chili has capsaicin. And Buldak isn’t even spicy challenge worthy. Up your game Denmark!

This is the brand I buy. I haven’t seen the 3X SPICY, but now I’m kinda scared to try it.

Seriously, recalling a food because it is “too spicy”? Nanny State douchebags.
To: McGruff
Never heard of it before, but when you come from Yokohama, the best ramen is
iekei (pronounced EE-AA-KAY, like the three letters E-A-K), a savory ramen with a pork/chicken broth mix, and no hot spice.

Capsaicin can increase the symptoms of allergies. Pepper spray in the face can give you cataracts.

Leave Denmark alone. They aren't big on spicy. Their hottest dish is boiled potatoes with vinegar, maybe with onions, too. That's their zone.
These people make fine beer (Tuborg was the best cheap beer I ever had). Some sliced pork on some fresh rye bread. Maybe a raspberry danish for dessert or snack, and you are all set.

I have never heard that capsaicin can be a "neurotoxin." It has many health benefits including anti-inflammatory qualities that are good for cardiovascular health. Danish cuisine isn't known for being hot and spicy, so most Danes are probably not used to foods rich in capsaicin, but the body can build up a tolerance to it over time.

When it first appeared in this country around 1973, the radio ads said that it was "brewed light for American tastes," which I took to mean that it was watered down and that you would have to go to Copenhagen to get the real thing.

Apparently selling those “hot” Doritos are verboten in Denmark.

Probably, but for a poor college student in 1984, $1.79 for a six-pack of beer 10x as good as Blatz or "Red, White and Blue", and twice as good as Rheingold, was a godsend.

IIRC they bought a sixpack of Tuborg, and never bought another; it wasn't anything like the home stuff. They found a place that sold snaps, and drank that and vodka for the six weeks or so they were installing the organ. This messed with the Methodist congregation, since at that time Methodists were (still) teetotalers; God only knows what the heretical cult the UMC has become drinks now.
