In the past couple of years I have noticed there is a complete lake of regard for other posters on this site. Not only that but swearing seems to be tolerated. In the past day I have been called gay, a lair, that I am talking out of my *** and I am full of ****. Do we even have to go into the fighting on any thread about Ukraine or Russia. Even hard facts from multiple sources no longer seem to matter. Instead it is whoever can come up with the snarkiest reply.
Yes, it’s all gotten worse over the years. A lot of the problem is the Russia-Ukraine War. In general, though, political sites are built on abuse, and abuse of the other side tends to spiral into abuse of those on one’s own side that one happens to disagree with.
Yup, been here since 2001. I remember the days when Bush and Rove were heroes and Coulter was the pin-up girl for the right. As a sign de note I listen to local radio host Mark Belling and he always talks about what people do and say on the Internet and how it always comes back to haunt their real life.
The same Mark Levin who was constantly making screw of the “Rockettes” supporting Trump? That Mark Levin?

I think the problem is this:
Since the advent of Trump Derangement Syndrome, the enemy has crossed too many lines and it really pisses me and a lot of others off.
So many FReepers seem to sympathize with anti-Trump nonsense and defend anti-Trump lies - which has led to an impasse where reason and debate only affords liars an equal platform with honest people. Why give liars a voice?
For example, the 2020 election was stolen. FReepers who say it wasn’t stolen are lying scum and don’t deserve to be heard. They should be called out as liars and scum.
There are lots of other examples I won’t go into - but the point is, the
time for debate and polite discourse is long past - now we are at war, and apparently people can’t handle it. Kind of like some people couldn’t handle Trump’s “mean tweets”.
Sorry - not sorry. Liars should be called liars, perverts should be called perverts, and trolls should be called trolls.

House on 3 acres, waterfront. Big dock, no boats, but when it comes time to sell the dock will be a plus. TVA permits are complicated so buyers prefer that there’s existing one. Bought it in 2023.

There is nothing wrong with disagreeing a poster and arguing with their opinion. That is what political discussion forums are all about. What I see and what I believe others here who say that Free Republic is in decline are referring to are the personal attacks and hostility as stated in the article at the beginning of this thread.

Regardless, we know some will and some will not comply. I purposely skip over freepers that label & insult, i.e. labeled a “zeeper” or “liberal.”
Also, if I find meaningful info and the uncool are in forum I simply share PM to avoid the snark memes & comments.
But, all that being said I must share my great appreciation for FR. The caring of the freeper community as well as my continued learning from informative posts on the topics of the day.

I don't think so. Back then everybody was focused on the Clintons. People weren't as abusive to one another as they are now with the Russia vs. Ukraine thing. Also, the articles that were posted tended to be more intelligent. Now there's a pipeline from Breitbart or Gateway Pundit straight to here of articles that are only designed to be abuse fodder.
