In the past couple of years I have noticed there is a complete lake of regard for other posters on this site. Not only that but swearing seems to be tolerated. In the past day I have been called gay, a lair, that I am talking out of my *** and I am full of ****. Do we even have to go into the fighting on any thread about Ukraine or Russia. Even hard facts from multiple sources no longer seem to matter. Instead it is whoever can come up with the snarkiest reply.
To this day, I have no clue as to how or why I decided to register with that name.
I suspect alcohol had some part in that fateful day.

I found FR through the Drudge Report. He had a link to FR he'd labeled "Whitewater Files." I probably heard about Drudge's site via Rush's radio show.
You're right that this place has changed quite a bit since we signed up, but it's still the first place I come to when it comes to the news. I haven't watched any news programming on any network or platform since Obama was elected in November 2008.

Stay out of regional wars that are devoid of specific national interest and it’s even worse when US taxpayers must fund the various sides....but Big Military demands they must have their wars.

I feel Jim or John should weigh in. I know Jimrob posted relatively recently RE what is acceptable/not acceptable. Perhaps he should repost it.
Policing people is difficult and the moderators do the best they can.
Face it, a forum based on politics or such as Ukraine/Russia is going to get heated....BUT perhaps post a few bullet point rules where the violaters get suspended for a month or so.
I guess that would cost a lot in manpower and therefore a lot of money so maybe that is not possible.
I think some of the biggest reasons are the copyright infringement restrictions that were placed on FR as well as many of the major news sources are now behind a paywall.
In the old days, the entire piece was posted to FR and could be dissected in full. (That also made FR a great research tool in that it remained on FR’s server and could be referred to months and even years late whereas links to excerpted articles may or not be available when wanted in the future)
Now, for the most part, posters are limited to just an excerpt of the article and rather than pulling out the pertinent details from the article in their excerpt, they cut_n_paste the first 3-4 lines of the article, regardless of whether or not it contains any important details. The reader then has to make a choice as to whether or not to click on the link to the excerpted piece to see it in full.

Last June on one of her Ukraine threads, she mistakenly hit the reply button to Freeper Allegra instead of the abuse button, and asked to have Allegra's post at #67 removed. Allegra confronted her about it right after: "Did you accidentally post your Report Abuse report to me in the forum instead of to the Mods? 😄😂"

When UMCRevMom realized what she'd done at post #73, she had the mods take down her abuse message she'd sent to Allegra.

There does seem to be some people here who are too thin-skinned.
The first time one of my comments was removed was in 2006 on an obituary thread about the death of Segregation RAT Senator Byrd's wife. I wrote that her death was the first confirmed case in the U.S. of a human dying of "Bryd Flu." I thought it was pretty funny. Some putz took offense and hit the abuse button to have it removed.
And stupid crap like that still goes on here.
I did a check, and it seems that I’ve been here since 5/2/1998. which would be 9535 days ago. Not all that far from 10000.

That was pretty petty of them, but then there are some petty people on FR...nitpickers. I've knocked heads with a few people here, moreso over the past two years than in any of the past 26 years I've been here.
I thought you'd find that interesting.
