Really root beer? Nothing better than a root beer float.

Other foods included were corn dogs and grits. Nothing better than a state fair corn dog and shrimp and grits is a gourmet option for me.

Now, if licorice was on the list, I could agree.

They can always go back to from whence they came. NO one is making them stay, live and eat here.

As an undergraduate I did a study tour in France and it was a culinary wakening for me as a meat, potatoes and gravy Midwesterner. I was very adventurous and tried many French dishes and found most to be delicious, but there were some things I definitely thought were not really that edible e.g. brochette de rognon ( kidney). However, I am not a fan of chicken and waffles nor any of the batter dipped deep fat fried stuff on a stick that is served at state fairs.

I’d give them 50/50 on this. I don’t “get” chicken and waffles, I don’t think they’re gross but I don’t get them.
Corndogs are gross, I love em, but, even I know they’re nasty.
Hersheys is crap chocolate, always has been, always will be.
Faux burgers are sad.
As George Carlin said “then you throw them out cause you can’t eat them damn grits”.
And yes process cheese, the Hershey of cheese, just awful stuff.

Corn dogs are very popular in Korea, China, and I’ve seen them elsewhere in Asia. I actually met a Korean man who owns a corn-dog factory making them for 7-11 type shops in Korea and China!

similar to here, they are sold at public festivals, night markets, street fairs, etc...

I heard a story "on air" about a naked man seen running from a restaurant with a "battered sausage". It definitely had San Francisco vibes. Upon closer inspection, it was a British story. A "battered sausage" is a corn dog in the UK.

“Grits”???? Really?

Call it Polenta and they’ll love them. It’s the same food made exactly the same way

Now that’s just heresy. Grits are a cultural legacy, deserving of the highest honor. They MUST be served with butter, salt and pepper.

Putting sugar on them should be a capital offense. DON’T DO IT, ever.

I agree with all of these except root beer. Maybe the commercial product is overly engineered, but its origins with the root bark of the sassafras tree (sarsaparilla) are authentically American. You can find preserved root shavings or liquid concentrate in some speciality stores and make your own tea or cold drinks from it. Delicious, and not stinging and biting like the canned sugary soda drink.

When I was a youngster, I discovered a bushy small tree on a stream bank in the woods behind our home, with some yellow-orange roots exposed. I picked at one, and it smelled like...ROOT BEER! Sudden enlightenment...

Used to break a few small pieces off, rinse them in the stream and chew them.
