WASHINGTON, May 29 (Reuters) - The White House on Wednesday plans to announce new measures to support the development of new U.S. nuclear power plants, a large potential source of carbon-free electricity the government says is needed to combat climate change.
The suite of actions, which weren't previously reported, are aimed at helping the nuclear power industry combat rising security costs and competition from cheaper plants powered by natural gas, wind and solar.

long overdue
Mighty Thor(ium)!
Doing the right thing for the wrong reason.
At least until November and then they will suddenly change their minds..............
Didn’tEarnIt types will be hired. Money will be laundered. It will cost 10 times the original estimate and take years longer to build. See the hi-speed choo-choo debacle in kalifornia.
Must be an election year
November looms, and talk is cheap.
The democrats must be so sure of their left-loony base voting for them that they feel they can support Israel and nuclear power without fear of losing their votes.
“cheaper plants powered by natural gas, wind and solar.”
That’s a laugh.
~wink wink~
Because green energy is so wonderful
EXactly my thought
Agreed. IMHO, nuclear isn't the answer so much as getting the government out of the energy business. The Dims who today say they support nuclear are the same Dims who tomorrow will say nuclear is killing us all.
Just like in the Obama years they forced many power companies to close some of their coal plants and replace them with power plants fueled by "clean burning natural gas", only to now say that natural gas is killing us all and should be banned and/or too expensive to use.
Trump has always said we should use all available commodities...and that would include coal.
“Doing the right thing for the wrong reason.”
BINGO!!!
“Climate Change” or no climate change it is the right thing to do. But of course “climate change” is the ONLY reason the Obama-Biden cabal is doing it.
A quarter century or so.
Too little and far too late. The swamp of regulations by the Executive Branch and Soros-funded lawsuits guarantee that no construction on any new plants will begin within the next two decades, and by the time the plants come online, energy shortages will be something our children and grandchildren will be accustomed to.
Bingo! This last-second reversal of America-hating positions by Biden’s handlers are to give him better talking points at the debates and for the rest of the re-election campaign. None of it is seriously being considered.
Georgia Power states “the Vogtle plants Unit 3 and 4 are the first newly constructed nuclear plant built in the US in 30 years.”
Vogtle Unit 3 Planning started in 2006 and the plant went on line in 2023.
I read the article and saw that the WH “will announce a new group that will seek to identify ways to mitigate cost and schedule overruns in plant construction.” Apparently the WH believes the delays in building these plants are the fault of the power companies. I must have missed the part where the feds will reduce regulations that impede the planning and building of nuclear power plants.
