I just posted my feeling about is post #20.

I don’t think anyone is advocating for his sentence to be wiped off his record, I have said many times he deserves to be punished and sent to jail, I just don’t think life in prison is warranted in this case.

Double life-sentence + 40 years.

He was offered a plea deal that would've had him out of prison in ten years. He turned it down.

It really isn't a fair system of justice of you are offered a lenient plea deal versus a draconian sentence if you roll the dice and lose.

Clearly, the government felt that ten years was a reasonable time to serve.

The bit about the agents pretending to be quarreling lovers is priceless.

I don’t know much of the details but I imagine he took a small transaction fee. At that time bitcoin was of very low value relative to the dollar compared to what it is worth today. It may be worth billions now. Perhaps billions of dollars in transactions took place but I don’t think he personally made billions. I could be wrong.

He thought he could beat it obviously. He chose poorly, knowing darn well that he was starting a site with illegal intentions. He just thought that since he personally didn’t engage in these illegal activities that, that absolved him of any wrongdoing, but he was providing the opportunity n engage in the criminal activity, which to me is being an accessory to a crime. But I agree to have such an offer presented and then to receive a far more severe sentence, is a criminal act as well, in my view at any rate. But it goes to the heart of exposing just how much the criminal system is being allowed to be subverted. Whomever asked for, and whomever allocated, that sentence should be disbarred.

He would have had to name names of his business customers, potential partners, Bitcoin routing, and multiple other connections to get the offer. Had he done so, he would have needed to enter the witness protection program.

This drug dealer and murderer (sure, he didn't get charged with it but it is pretty clear if you do some reading that he was involved), belongs where he is, in jail. He created a website and facilitated all sorts of illegal activities. Let him rot there.

Okay, Trump promises to commute his sentence. Unfortunate, but I'm sure worse people have had their sentences commuted. Maybe Trump will delay this until the last day of his next term to get 16 years of jail out of him.

There were some rather substantive threads on FR in the past about this guy, what he did, and why he was rightly in jail.

Apparently he had had his accumulated Bitcoin stolen, and after his arrest the Feds found and seized it.

He knowingly started a darkweb site, not just a website. He knew quite well what he was allowing to take place on that site was illegal, and that is why he started it on the darkweb.

"Dark Web!!!"

What a scary name!

It must be bad! The gaslight press says so!

Where and what exactly is the ‘dark web’? I’ve heard the term many times, but I really don’t know.

Well, it is bad actually. I also do not gaslight easily. There is good reason for them to hide in the shadows. There is a lot of nefarious activity happening in there.

There are of course legal activities happening there as well However, because I have never bothered to get the software that allows one to go there, I am speaking mainly from what I hear about it, not firsthand knowledge. Just now willing to accidently fall into some website where I might be entrapped in some manner by law-enforcement. It just makes no sense to venture there.

I understand the DuckDuckGo does allow you to go there, but I have no interest, or knowledge how to go there via that search engine. Too old to go to jail. 👍 😋

There is a lot of nefarious activity happening in there.

There is a lot of "nefarious activity" happening everywhere and you think giving government, the greediest, most corrupt and murderous force on Earth, spying powers on everybody and everything will fix it.

You're either evil or stupid or both.

From that stupid statement alone I can tell you have no idea what the "Dark Web" is.

Prove me wrong.

I have no desire to prove you wrong, just as I have no desire to learn the truth about it either. I made no bones that I have zero firsthand knowledge, and that I also have zero desire to acquire it.

It exists, and there is a lot of bad out there, that I have no desire to know about. Evil exists everywhere, and I am aware of that.

You can say whatever you want about me, but that won't change my thoughts about it or my desire to learn more about it.

I did also admit that there is likely to be some good in there as well. Some may even be working behind the scenes against evil, and them I will support. For I understand why they may need to work in that anonymous state for good, against evil.
