Gen Z woman floored by 35-year-old man’s text after first date

“Is he a bad texter, or is he over 35?”

Elizabeth Castaldi, a popular US creator, has sparked a viral discussion about the generation gap in texting when it comes to dating.

Castaldi, 27, recently went on a date with a 35-year-old man and she was baffled by the text he sent her the next day.

“Hey, had fun last night. Have a good day,” the man texted.

Then, in true Generation Z fashion, Castaldi took that private message, screenshotted it and posted it online, where it has amassed more than 500,000 views.

She added the caption: “I have to start dating people my own age. But I won’t.”

Castaldi’s confusion at the text message firmly divided the comment section.

Some thought she was being accurate and he was texting like a millennial, while others thought she was being unfair and the text she received wasn’t out of the ordinary.

“I’m confused how is this bad?” one person asked.

Castaldi replied that she didn’t have the “ick” by his formal text message, but his millennial texting style made her unable to tell if he wanted to see her again.

“Let’s be clear, I do not have the ick. I just can’t read him and I really, really want to go on a second date,” she wrote.

Someone else replied and said the problem with the 35-year-old’s text is that it was too sterile.

Well I don’t see that much difference between 27-35 except at 35 he probably acts like 27 year old. If he was 27 he’d probably act like a 19 year old.

“Sounds like he had an okay one nighter and was brushing her off nicely.”

Sounds like the “creator” had a slow day for new ideas to seek clicks.

Most of this garbage is either made up or “stretched”.

As somebody quipped, Taylor Swift has over 500 songs about failed relationships, but not even one song about making him a sammich

Coincidence?

...besides, she’s just a hard 6 when all is said and done.

“BTW WTF exactly is a “creator”?”

One who creates. Like this story. Loosely translated, makes up.

“ Men shouldn’t use emojis.”

I agree with that in general. When I see MEN responding with multicolored hearts to some post on instagram, makes me want to throw up. However there are times when I feel the need to add a smiley because the humor or sarcasm in my post isn’t clear. But those are exceptions.

I am, hehe. I once texted an invite to an old friend about a bukkake party. I told her she could bring all her girl friends too, lol. She had fun with that text. I think she was out with the girls when I texted.

I have been posting here for over 20 years, and have managed to do it without emojis. Occasionally a /sarc tag might have been useful, but even that tends ti ruin the joke. I admit I might be more long-winded than other freepers. I have also managed to avoid the use of emojis in other boards. Their use was deprecated in the original online style guide, though it may have been since revised.

“It took me less than 2 weeks to lock my husband down”

My first wife and I met my senior year in college, at beginning of 2nd semester. Friends suggested I ask her out, went to one party together on Saturday night, When I took her home that night I asked her what she had planned on Sunday, she that she would be teaching children's Sunday school class. And I told her that I would go there with her, she agreed. I sat in one of the tiny chairs in her classroom and watched her and the kids.

We saw each other ever day after that. She told me later that she called an old boyfriend, that she thought she had found the one.

We were married in about 8 months. She died in 2018, after 47 years of marriage.

After she died I shifted my time taking care of my elderly father almost full time. One day I went to the bank to make a deposit, a misunderstanding in conversation with the Teller, gave me the impression she was flirting. (the bank employees had been kind to me after my wife's death)

I mulled that around a few weeks and then one Sunday I called her on the phone and asked her if she would have lunch with me, she said yes, but she was teaching children's Sunday school. I told her that I would have lunch ready after the services.

I made one of my better recipes, Sweet and Sour Chicken. Use the best ever recipe for the sauce. We talked for about 2-3 hours. Then repeated the meal routine for a while, within 2 weeks it was clear to both of us that it was intended we meet.

We are both excellent cooks. Don't make same dishes.

A year later we married in the middle of the Covid lockdown insanity. There were only 5 people allowed in our wedding, but the minister's wife captured it on her cell phone and put it on the Church website. (we are town of 600 people) There were 2200 views of the wedding within 2 weeks. Smile.

We have both been blessed by God.

I am 76 now, she is younger than I am. With 4 years of marriage we are starting over.

Not everyone w/in a generation thinks or believes the same. My advise for anyone seeking a spouse would that you ask Christ into your life and by doing so - be indwelt by the Holy Spirit; Read the Word for identity and truth; join a church where you cab be edified and challenged to live an abundant full life in Christ. The Holy Spirit is who speaks truth to an individual's heart and mind.

In Christ, you can find a good spouse. Outside of Christ, you (and your spouse) will live with a person who possesses a worldly, anti-Christian worldview.
