I know a woman from central Mexico who took years to learn not to be afraid to shoot a shotgun and a pistol. She killed a skunk with the shotgun while home alone. She has also killed a chicken snake with the shotgun while home alone. She competently shoots her 1911-style .380. From what I hear from her family, she carries it if she ever goes to any large metropolis here in Texas. She’ll also use either one for other matters if she has to from what I know about her.
