We're finally on our own
This summer I hear the drumming
Four dead in Ohio
Gotta get down to it, soldiers are cutting us down
Should have been gone long ago
What if you knew her and found her dead on the ground
How can you run when you know?
La-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
La-la-la-la, la-la-la
La-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
La-la-la-la, la-la-la
Gotta get down to it, soldiers are cutting us down
Should have been gone long ago
What if you knew her and found her dead on the ground
How can you run when you know?
Tin soldiers and Nixon coming
We're finally on our own
This summer I hear the drumming
Four dead in Ohio
Four dead in Ohio (four)
Four dead in Ohio (I said four, I said four)
Four dead in Ohio (how many more?)
Four dead in Ohio (why?)
Four dead in Ohio (I wanna know why)
Four dead in Ohio (you better tell me why)
Four dead in Ohio (why?)
Four dead in Ohio (why did they die?)
Four dead in Ohio (you tell me why)
Four dead in Ohio (I said why)
Four dead in Ohio (I wanna know why)
Four dead in Ohio (why?)
Four dead in Ohio (I said why)
Four dead in Ohio (why, Lord?)
Four dead in Ohio (why did they die?)
Four dead in Ohio (I said why)
Four dead in Ohio (why?)
Four dead in Ohio (yeah, why?)
Four dead in Ohio (please tell me why)
Four dead in Ohio (why?)
Four dead in Ohio (I wanna know)
Four dead in Ohio (why?)
Four dead in Ohio (why did they died)
Four dead in Ohio (you tell me why)
Four dead in Ohio (why?)
Four dead in Ohio (why?)
Four dead in Ohio (why?)
Four dead in Ohio (why?)
Four dead in Ohio (why?)
Four dead in Ohio
I was just about to post the same correction. Changes the meaning just a mite.
I googled it...first hit I got...
Well what a coincidence. Going to see him play Sunday night. In Alabama of all places.
Young and Skynyrd were actually not enemies, ya know. They were just having fun tweaking Neil about him dragging Alabama, and over time it became clear they were more like long-distance friends. There are even pictures of them wearing the other's concert T-shirts or playing each others' songs in tribute.
National guard aren’t cops.
I grew up in that time frame and
riots in cities, Watts was very personal to me
and protests gave me a mindset.
If I was a young man in that small squad faced,
with hundreds of crazed Democrat
protesters, I would have shot
and not lost one iota of sleep over it.
Vietnam era vet. I did my time.
So cool to shoot unarmed college kids, eh?
The unarmed students at Kent state burned down the ROTC building and several cars. They also rushed the national guardsmen after tear gas was deployed and they did not disperse. Not justifying the shootings. Rubber bullets could have been used. But context is important. They weren’t just sitting around in a circle smoking weed and singing songs.
Ones, that will be glad to beat you death?
When you are out numbered one hundred to one
Yes!
The question unanswered is who shot first.
The NG there were little more than kids themselves.
Profs at Ohio universities were barring door entries.
In chem labs, precipitates automatically fell out, the tear gas was so thick.
NG lined the streets.
Thanks for serving.
I’m pretty sure the kids were scared shitless and shot in self defense.
I went into military at age 17 and was raised with guns.
I also know what a mob would do to you,
think of “black hawk down”
I saw that in Watts riots.
I’m sure the NG guys knew about Detroit.
There is no such thing as a peaceful
Vietnam war protest,
with over 500 hundred people there.
Four-Way Street was still getting a lot of airplay on FM, so they did a lot of that. Kent State wasn't very long ago, either.
I grew up 45 miles east of Kent. Years after the incident my baseball coach, also history teacher related his experiences. During the riots, yes riots those “students” damn near burned down the town of Kent. If they didn’t burn it, they destroyed it. My coach drove to Kent in the middle of the night to get his girlfriend out of the dorms. He got his girlfriend and they made it out of Kent with only two broken windows and one flat tire. The residents of Kent were terrified every night. The dorm monitor said my coach was nuts for coming at night.
My opinion of the event is similar, the NG didn’t shoot enough of those freaks.
When “protests” turn into riots like BLM/ANTIFA summer of mostly peaceful protests, Aim Small Miss Small!!!!
Thanks for posting. Great thread.
Friend was in a Kent State U. dorm room, watching the Ohio National Guard and the “student” protesters, along with a roommate - through their window.
Friend’s military experience kicked in; he yelled, “Duck!”
These two hit the deck, as the ONG fired. The heard one round hit the building.
I was airborne, commercial to our hometown. Knew nothing about the events underway. Landed, grabbed a car ride home, did not use the radio.
Drove over to friend’s house, where the parents were alert to “something has happened.” Eventually more news on the TV. We waited for their son.
He arrived a few hours later. “School’s out!” Much to tell.
Governor Jim Rhodes took it on the chin. Liberal media then as vile as today.
“The unrest” chiefly a left-wing-nut production of the left-funding producers, same as today, the agitprop: Russia, socialists, Red Chinese, “enlightened” liberals and “professors.”
The truth of the matter is the students cornered the National Guard, who then panicked, and rightfully so.

National Guard troops made up of mostly Working Class White boys vs. the privileged children of Middle/Upper-Middle Class parents and their Bolshevik agent provocateurs.
The Working Class won that particular battle but, alas, have lost every battle since.
Thank you for your service. The Truth about Kent State rarely gets told. I think they now call Facts elusive.
This is in my neck of the woods. You can still see some bullet holes and they have a spot roped off where one of the kids fell. It’s one of those places where you can feel the sadness. It was a tragedy no matter which way you look at it.
Like today they had traveling protest groups show up to organize things and to encourage kids to tear the place down. Poor stupid dumb kids.
