I would cut it asap, close to flowering. I just use a sharp knife.
How far should I cut that stalk?

Just went to bootstrap farmer, had wiggle wire and track in the cart. Started to go through checkout, all the way to starting a paypal payment. Then I saw they had free shipping which I knew about but also UPS 2 day for only $13.65.
Got curious and emptied the cart, put plastic film in the cart and UPS 2 day was $55 but they also have free shipping but no shipping time shown.
I can’t buy it all this week so I’m going to buy the film this week and next week I’ll pay the $13.65 to make sure I have everything by Memorial Day weekend.
But then I decided to glance at my bank account and they have a hold on the original partial paypal checkout. Paypal has no record of it because it wasn’t completed and I’m sure the bank will drop the hold. I’m going to wait for that to happen and then buy the film. Probably tonight.
Came real close to draining my checking account though, even if only for a day or two.

No problem. That little head at the bottom should grow and more small heads will come out. Also the plant is quite tall. Next year I would make sure it gets full sun. Lots of water too. Enjoy.
Yes, I realize that it isn’t enough sun. It’s the sunniest spot I have available. It’s near my roses and other full sun plants. I’ve watered it nearly every day that we haven’t had rain. It may just be a little guy. Can I give it fertilizer? I don’t grow anything but herbs here, so I’m very inexperienced this kind of stuff.

Upthread Diana mentioned 20-0-0 for broccoli for big heads, but I don’t know about broccolini. We just grow the broccoli and our soil is high in nitrogen so it does well here. We use compost so enriching the soil is always good. I think your biggest factor is the sunlight. The plant looks very healthy. So I would not expect too much from the one plant. I have limited sun in parts of the yard but the garden is OK. I track the sun every few years from spring until fall during the day to find the sunniest spots for flowers. Maybe broccolini does well in a large container if that could go somewhere with more sun. You would have to have a rich soil mix.
Well I have a story. I had given up on finding any shishitos locally and ordered two from Bonnie. Had to drive east yesterday about 40 minutes and there is a Menards there. Hubby heard this spring on tv that they sold Bonnie plants, and the next time I had to go I stopped and there was nothing there. A month later I had to go back yesterday. It was 85 degrees and I thought for a minute I was going to pass out but still went out to the garden center. This is where all the shishitos have gone in west Michigan. They had a huge assortment and varieties I have only seen online. I went around the back and found 5 full trays of shishito pepper plants. I could hear the angels sing. Got 4 and put them in the ground early this morning. Never saw more than one tray locally at two stores here. Hooray I am all set now!
Thanks for that info. I forgot. I started with just one plant just to have an experience with it. My sunniest spots would be in the middle of the front lawn someplace. Our backyard is too shaded. I have a spot that could maybe work as a garden area if we cut out several limbs, but that would be a project for later this summer.
I wish I could get hubby to agree to take out a couple of trees to the east and west.
Not quite but it’s not when I was thinking. It’s in 6 days.
My parents anniversary was May 31st and they were married on Memorial Day. Between that and me not bothering to look at a calendar I was thinking it was two weekends away. Guess I was thinking memorial day was always the 31st or something.

I’d hoped to get the rhubarb in after work yesterday but that little squall that blew in off the prairie had me tying things down instead of working in the garden. I’ll make another attempt this evening if the rain holds off.

I think I'm going to just enjoy the long weekend. Screw the tunnel.
IMHO, Rhubarb is a very under-rated vegetable. Or is it a FRUIT? The debate rages! ;)
Lately, I have been serving Rhubarb Sauce to Beau over Vanilla Bean Ice Cream as his Evening Treat. He falls in love with me all over again every Rhubarb Season. Rhubarb Custard Pie. Rhubarb Bread and Muffins, etc. I keep ‘Rhubarb’ in my back pocket for when I need to talk him into another of my hare-brained schemes. ;)
Mom raids my patch, too. She LOVES her some Rhubarb Sauce, so I come by it honestly. It’s not Witchcraft...or, IS IT? LOL!

Today I had the pleasure of meeting other women who enjoy gardening. One of my friends invited me to join her and others to learn about prairie wildflowers.
Well, I can report that I learned some new things, met many lovely women with whom I have something in common, and I also had a “visit” with my Mom, who had taken the form of another lady who was roughly Mom’s age. She dressed like my mom would. 91. Very lively and lovely lady. I hope to see her again. It was like I had a visit from my own mother, a true gift.
The end of the visit was so special. One lady invited everyone to stop off at her house, and take a look at her wildflower garden that was in full bloom. All I can say is that it was like I saw a Monet painting in person. It was so beautiful. She had so many different types of wildflowers. She said it’s been a work in progress for 4 years. I so admire her persistence. It was stunning. All the colors, shapes, and heights of the plants.
I love finding out new things and new people in this place we now call home. Today was one of those days. I feel blessed. So I hope each of you have a blessed day that is your next one. You never know when you’ll get one of these surprise days. It reminds me of that saying, “Today is a gift. That’s why they call it THE PRESENT.”

I plan on mowing the lawn today until the gasoline runs out (we forgot to take the gas can with us on our rounds, yesterday) and if the weather looks like it will hold, get some, or ALL of my tomatoes in the ground.
I panicked, yesterday! It was overcast and cool when we left at 9am so I neglected to open up the greenhouse. We were away longer than planned (ran into friends - blah, blah, blah, yack, yack, yack) and were gone for 6 hours. Of course, the clouds cleared and the greenhouse heated up. My poor tomatoes were all WILTED when we got back. I actually SCREAMED when I was in there, LOL! But, after a good long drink of well water, they seem to be OK.
I would’ve been so MAD at myself had my ‘babies’ been harmed! ;)
Isn’t that what these plants all are, our babies? It’s like precious children that we take great pains to nurture and protect so that we can watch them grow up to maturity.
