YUP. You read that correctly. Hamas admitted that the numbers the mainstream media has been shoving down your throat about the Gaza death toll are inflated.
It seems that most people were not surprised about the numbers being wrong or about the media running away from the story.

Everyone knew the numbers were inflated, even the mainstream media outlets that reported the false numbers in the first place knew it. It is a pretty sad state of affairs when most of our media outlets have the same level of trustworthiness as a terror organization ...
One of our favorite writers from our other sister site RedState had several posts on the matter as well.

For six months, the press assured us that Hamas could recover and count bodies within minutes of every attack. They cited the figures and chastised those who cast doubt.

WE ARE SHOCKED! Shocked that a bunch of terrorists who started attacks and lied about it for years would lie and inflate numbers to make Israel look bad so they can cry and call them meanie-heads. Even more shocking is that Left-leaning media that pretends they are not biased just reports the terrorist propaganda every single day without ceasing and then drops into the shadows when the numbers are wrong. Considering even Hamas is now saying they only have evidence of around 20,000 dead (of which 13,000 have been militants), I'm struggling to see how Israel is going to kill "100,000 Gazans."

We do know that number is not correct, BUT that is not the question that should be asked. The question that should be asked is the same question that should have been asked on October 7th. That question is: 'Who started the attacks by breaking the cease-fire agreement and killing, kidnapping, and raping innocent people and what is the proper retaliation to those events when the terrorists refuse to return hostages?'
People can say what they want about Israel, but they have every single right to defend themselves and take action to ensure it never happens again.
It’s probably inflated far more than that…they are a terrorist organization, after all.

We agree. We can not expect terrorists to behave like a ladies' Bible study group, but we should be able to expect more out of media outlets, we should be able to, but we can't because they prove time and time again to be nothing but an arm of the far Left.
We will not hold our breath but we will keep an eye out for any of the media outlets that were putting out daily numbers of the death tolls to admit they were wrong.

We have FReepers who have cried over the dire “truth” of the Hamas numbers, and hated Israel for them!
They refuse to believe Hamas could be telling lies—because they are Hamas sympathizers.
They are all too hardspunned to understand they are living a grotesque lie from Hamas.
NOBODY with a functioning brain that's been paying attention the last 20+ years!!!!
The horrible thing in all of this is that the media often knows they are being manipulated and basically go along with it.
—Most do little fact checking.
—Some allow ghost writers.
—Most have a moderate to high degree of spin.
—The use of fallacies is extremely common.
—Most self censor and choose the stories they run and when based on their readers social, political, ethnic, religious orientation.
There is no such thing as a “free lunch.”
We don’t get free news either, someone is paying for it, and they are the ones that get to decide what you see and hear. What we call “news” is mostly a form of advertising, without people even realizing that.
If you want unbiased professionally written news, like it’s an Intel report, you would have to pay for such a service since no one would care to pay for it since their interests aren’t being advertised.

The left believes and reports Hamas numbers because they want to. They want anything that makes Israel out to be the bad guys broadcast far and wide, because they want it to be true and they want everyone to think it’s true too. They could check the numbers but they don’t want to. Our MSM leftists hate Israel and I guess apparently, they just plain hate Jews? I can’t really fathom it, but they make it pretty clear with their lies which side they’re playing for.

I believe they were claiming 30,000 dead. When I heard that
I flashed back to when they claimed Israel targeted a
hospital. They claimed 500 dead. When it came out that
Israel had bombed an area outside the hospital, but pretty
close, that 500 body count wound up to be around 20, under
as I recall, which may be a bit low on my part.
I never bought into that 30,000 figure, as every mush-brained
woken individual did. If it’s over 5,000 I’d be surprised.
Israel does not target citizens. They target Hamas
leadership, which sometimes takes some real soul searching
on the part of Israeli leadership and military planners.
The Hamas leadership has to go. This will happen over and
over and over again until they are destroyed.
Destroying them will also let Israels future enemies know
what the toll is for pulling an event like October 7th.
This is all about deterrence and eliminating the leadership
of the enemies of Israel.
