Furious BLM activists have clashed with cops outside a Chicago police station after a video was released showing a deadly officer-involved shooting of a black man.
Dexter Reed, 26, was killed during a traffic stop which erupted into a huge shootout also injuring an officer and which cops say Reed started.
On Tuesday, Chicago Police released footage of the March 21 encounter which showed them firing 96 shots at Reed, even as he lay motionless on the ground outside his vehicle.
The aspiring broadcaster's death has reignited conversations around excessive police force against black people, though officers maintain Reed opened fire first.
Shortly after the footage was released, around 100 protesters gathered outside CPD's 11th district, blocking the streets and jostling with police.
'We don't need armed police officers to tell someone to put their seat belt on,' one protester told the crowd in a video captured by Fox.
'Dexter Reed's vehicle had tinted windows, so the argument that they were enforcing seat belt laws doesn't make sense,' another added.
Police said they pulled Reed over in Humboldt Park for allegedly not wearing a seatbelt.
But Andrew Stroth, an attorney for Reed's family, branded the police stop 'unconstitutional', claiming the plainclothes cops did not announce they were police.
Bodycam footage showed a plain clothes tactical unit approaching Reed's SUV and ordering him to roll his window down with their weapons drawn.
Reed is seen resisting orders to roll down his window. Suddenly a volley of shots is heard and the officers immediately return fire.

Weird how suddenly I can’t Google search for “dexter reed criminal history”... All that comes up is news stories about what a good kid he was and how nice he was on the basketball team...
There is much more to this story than being told. For one thing, plains clothes officers do not make traffic stops, and they always use a minor offense when they want to stop someone like crossing center lane or so other BS. They wanted him stopped for some other reason. The cop approached the car with weapon drawn? Something ain’t right here.
Good people do not want to be cops these days, can’t say I blame them.
Exactly. Chicago isnโt in the sunbelt. Illinois allows tint of rear windows but not the windshield, and a lighter tint is allowed on drivers/passenger sides front windows. His tinted front-side windows looked to be pushing the envelope. Most criminals gangsters in Chicago with tinted windows do so to conceal their activities.
Yep, that kind of sums this story up.
This would be my guess... It was a black female officer that was trying to open the drivers door. She unassed the area right quick when the kid opened up on her...
After that... sounds like each cop dropped two full mags each at the vehicle and in to the kid. Guessing only a few bullets actually hit him. That was enough though.
Video shows her drawing only after he tried rolling the window back up and locked the doors...
And a good dad to several of his ex-wives kids.
It isn’t my business. It is for police safety so someone can’t hide in the back seat.
Huh? I thought them glocks(?) could do 600 rounds/min.
If it all boils down to police safety... where does that rabbit hole end?
Cops don’t run extend-o mags and Glock switches... Although, can’t see how it’d hurt their accuracy any.
Wives? Score card tally maybe.....
I know how to do 3 round bursts. ๐๐
The video is at the link.
Decide for yourselves what it shows.
It looks like a mob hit aa much as an police action to me esp given the pretext is a seatbelt violation.
Tje pic of the dead perp doesnโt match the 100 round verbiage.
I tried the same on Bing, and got pretty much the same results. Then I changed it to โdoes Dexter Reed have a criminal recordโ and the info popped up. Here it is.
At the time of the shooting, Cook County court records showed Reed was out on pretrial release after being charged in 2023 with three counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and one count of possession of a firearm with a revoked FOID card.
SO.... not a choir boy.
Although... I do not approve of Illinois gun laws at all. Depending on what the “unlawful use” was and if it passes the 2A sniff check... My opinion could change...
“Unlawful use” in illannoy probably just means touching one without an FOID.
