Astronomy Picture of the Day - Moon's Shadow over Lake Magog

Explanation: Captured in this snapshot, the shadow of the Moon came to Lake Magog, Quebec, North America, planet Earth on April 8. For the lakeside eclipse chasers, the much anticipated total solar eclipse was a spectacle to behold in briefly dark, but clear skies. Of course Lake Magog was one of the last places to be visited by the Moon's shadow. The narrow path of totality for the 2024 total solar eclipse swept from Mexico's Pacific Coast north and eastward through the US and Canada. But a partial eclipse was visible across the entire North American continent.

That reminds me so much of when I played Little League Baseball.

I would look up into the sun for the ball, and it would get bigger and bigger until it kanocked me on the head.

Sheila Jackson Lee wants to know when Jupiter will go in front of the moon.

I found it odd that the moon is 2100 miles in diameter but the eclipse shadow was 71 miles in diameter.

I still get headaches when I watch a baseball game.

My son and I live about 1,000 apart and both of us were within a few miles of the centerline of the path of totality at our respective locations. Both of us were on water with bush behind us and had clear skies... for me, the sky opened up with a nice patch of clear blue right before the dark came but his was absolutely clear throughout. In many ways, I think my experience before and after totality was just as good and perhaps better because there were plenty of times that I could safely look at the sun with the moon coming across it and didn’t need my welding shield because there was just the perfect amount of cloud cover.

Anyway, we talked, texted and sent pictures to each throughout except for the time when totality hit because seeing how nature reacts around you is the most fun part of the experience.... especially as the birds figure out that something very weird has just gone on. It was quite fun to compare notes about something that we are both seeing with a time delay...

My son took a spectacular picture similar to the above one at Lake Magog.... However in his, both Jupiter and Venus can be clearly seen along with the eclipse and the beautiful sunset/sunrise.
