Democratic Rep. Raúl Grijalva of Arizona has been diagnosed with cancer, he announced Tuesday.

“A few weeks ago, I sought medical treatment for a persistent cough which was initially diagnosed as pneumonia. After further testing and imaging, my physician discovered that I have cancer,” he said in a statement.

He is 76, and a very tired looking 76.

Doesn’t sound good for the 76 yr. old heavy smoker, who’s been plagued by incessant coughing.

With the whole damn country at stake and the balance of power in flux in the house of representatives, I suggest he retire and see a doctor.

News of this now—assuming House of Reps replacement is like Wisconsin’s/Gallagher—with a special election scheduled now, or held until November presents some interesting scenarios.

He hasn’t resigned, and in this Biden era near the border, a quick special election could cost Ds a seat.

If it’s small cell carcinoma it’s a “when you die”, not “if” diagnosis. The 2 year mortality rate is 95%.

He's only been in Congress since January 2023. Persistent cough diagnosed as bronchitis? Lung cancer?

My second-oldest sister's old doctor gave her a diagnosis of bronchitis in the fall of 2009. She finally dumped him, and the first day she saw her new doctor in February 2010, he told her she had lung cancer. It was inoperable...small squamous cell. The oncologist told her that that type of cancer responds to treatment well, but it will come back, and with a vengeance. After intensive radiation and chemo treatments, 10 extra radiation treatments on her brain, she ended up with radiation burns on her back, had swallowing problems, and radiation pneumonia later in 2010. She had had her first cataract surgery in January 2011, and after coming home from the second surgery, she passed out in the bathroom, smashed her face on the bathtub, and it took 6 hours to put her face back together. In May they discovered the cancer had gone to her brain, put her in palliative care at the hospital, gave her 5 more radiation treatments to the brain, and she was admitted to hospice care on July 1, 2011. She died on her birthday September 2, 2011 at the age of 69.

Both parents, and my three siblings all smoked. My parents and that one sister, the second oldest died of lung cancer. My brother of a massive heart attack and my oldest sister died of a stroke at the age of 74. I was the baby, and never smoked. If I'm lucky enough, I'll make it to 77 in August, and be able to vote for Trump again in November.

Red raul grijalva, a leader in the house progressive caucus.

We can never vote him out, The only reason he gets re-elected is gerymandering of the whole heavily hispanic southern Arizona border to his district.

P.S. That district is the first one in the country that had a democrat operative convicted of voter fraud in the 2020 election.

He's only been in Congress since January 2023.

He's represented Arizona's Seventh Congressional District since 2023, true, but he represented the Third District from 2003 to 2023.

I don't wish him or anyone else to die of cancer, but the sooner he leaves Congress the better. Unfortunately, whoever ends up replacing him is not likely to be an improvement.

Grijalva made his bones in Arizona politics thanks to Jewish funding that he enjoyed when he saw to it that an Arab sponsored Arid Lands Institute was rejected at the University of Arizona. After decades in Congress the Marxist tool has not a single law dedicated to him or from him. His has been, however, a consistent supporter of Aztlan.

Thanks. I missed that on his Wikipedia page. So he is a long-timer. Time for him to go anyway, whichever way he goes. Shame that another RAT will end up in his place.

Anyone who is facing prospective cancer should start researching low dose naltrexone as your alternative treatment. It has cured my psoriasis and seems to helping my dog who has red growths/tumors on her head.

Since it is an off label use it takes a lot of experimenting to figure out what dosage to take . Reddit has a thread on it and so does facebook

I’m sorry for all the losses in your family. It can’t be easy being the sole survivor from among them. God bless you and any family you have left to you!

"Anyone who is facing prospective cancer should start researching low dose naltrexone as your alternative treatment."

My youngest son, at 48 was diagnosed with cancerous polyps in 2019. They did a double re-section, taking quite a bit of his colon, along with about 70 lymph nodes, and they did it all laparoscopically. He went through six months of chemo, and was recently give his 5-year clearance.

On a different note, my oldest son has been nursing his cat, who is about 19 years old, for liver cancer for the past three years. She's been on and off kitty-chemo for all that time, and the darn cat doesn't look or act sick. She's caught 3 mice in his flat these past couple of months. She had her recent blood test, and her condition remains stable. She's amazing.

The husband of my long-time friend, and his twin sister had the BRCA test at least 20 years ago. The sister was told by her doctor, that it wasn't a question of if she'd get breast cancer, it was a question of when. She eventually had a double mastectomy. Her twin, my friend's husband, about 10-11 years ago, was diagnosed with a rare cancer...Nasopharyngeal carcinoma and cancer of the larynx, which have a high death rate. It is very rare in the U.S. and occurs more in Southeast Asia. He was stationed in Pakistan with the Air Force during the Vietnam War, but Pakistan isn't a part of that region.

He went through intensive radiation treatments of his face and throat, and had to have a feeding tube put in to be nourished. His wife made sure she gave him food through the tube that would keep his strength up. I'm not sure if he had chemo as well. It's been well over five years for him since he received his treatments, and he's been cleared. The radiation changed his whole facial structure, and it destroyed his salivary glands. He has no spit, and has to drink plenty of fluids when he eats anything. He applied for VA benefits for the cancer a while back. At first they turned him down. He appealed his case, and was eventually approved. Must be there were other Vietnam Vets, that were diagnosed with one or both of that type of cancer. He and his twin sister were born in 1944 or 1945, so they will be 80 or 81 this December. His sister has yet to get cancer. Strange world huh?

P.S. Forgot to mention in my lengthy statement that the BRCA test showed my friend’s husband had no hereditary potential to get cancer. Like I said, strange world. Their family had high rates of cancer, even their nieces ended up with Uterine cancer and died. That was the main reason they took the BRCA test to begin with.

That’s a lot of death to deal with... painful story about your sister. I’m so sorry. Hang in there to vote for Trump and to be there for the rest of us. You’re in my prayers.
