I an see how hot this product is going to be one day.
A Quantum of Ping!.................
I was gonna throw shade but I decided to just clap back.
I imagine it also blocks cold from passing thru in the Winter?
.
I dated someone like that.
Looked fine, but no heat.
If it becomes a product the Dem-wits will say it contributed to global warming and tax anyone useing it.
If I coat myself with this stuff will my skin stop aging?
“Dichroic” filters for stage and movie lights, from when tungsten filaments made the light, have been available for many decades. They allow the lght to pass, and block most of the infra-red. See wiki for more.
Less of a problem today, when most stage and movie lights are LED-based.
Interesting. A number of medical commentators are saying that eliminating IR light indoors is harming our bodies. Near IR stimulating cellular melatonin production.
What happened to Smith and Murphy?
This is a bad idea. If we keep all the heat out and not let some inside, the earth will get hotter and our global warming crisis will only worsen and we’ll die sooner.
Southwall Technologies was making heat-rejecting coatings that pass visible light 30 or 40 years ago. In 2012, Eastman Chemical Company acquired Solutia Inc—the parent company of Southwall. I’m not sure what happened to their products after getting acquired.
Yeah, but what’s the cost of the windows?
I bought something like this at Home Depot 5 or 6 years ago. It’s still on sale there. It’s a retrofit product that you put on your west facing windows like a decal. You clean the window inside very very thoroughly, then spray a solution on the window and slide the film into place then you squeegee the moisture out the sides, wipe smooth and trim with a razor knife.
My house faces due west and in the summer days from 4 till 8 the sun just beats the front of the house. My upstairs has 3 bedroom windows facing west and the upstairs was always 3 degrees hotter up there. This film dropped my upstairs temp by 3 degrees almost instantly. The drawback is it appears the windows have sunglasses on them during the day as the film acts as a mirror. You can’t see in during day but you can see in at night.
this is a product I could support.
That’ll be a must for my motorhome for sure. The heat from the sun coming through that huge windshield despite running the generator with the 2 rooftop a/c’s still doesn’t cool enough
Double edged sword. Heat blocking windows are nice for hot summer days. But they also block the heat on cold days when that heat is beneficial. You will actually notice it in a house where the windows were replaced. The heating system has to run a lot more. The house does not heat up in the daytime just from the heat of the sun. What would great if they could design a window that can switch heat blocking characteristics on and off depending on need.
This seems to be an improvement on something that high-end window tint films have been doing for a while now. They use super thin layers of material with precise spacing that causes destructive interference in the incoming light. By fine tuning the spacing they can block UV and IR wavelengths while still passing visible light — so the material looks clear to our eyes.
One of these films is made by 3M called Crystalline:

Lets you block out unwanted light without having to use limousine dark tint.
Shutters cheap and easy to use worked for years.
