ROME, March 12 (Reuters) - An Italian company has conducted what it says is the first test of magnetic levitation (maglev) transport on an existing railway track, a technology that has the potential to reduce costs and energy use as the industry seeks more efficient systems. IronLev, a high-tech firm headquartered in the northern Italian town of Treviso, showcased a video of the test at the LetExpo2024 trade fair in the Veneto region on Tuesday

Henry Ford revolutioized transportation in a matter of 20 years with the internal combustion engine, bringing a century's worth of prosperity.
...”Energy saving”
Turns out maglev is great if everything, and I mean everything, works. But if there’s a momentary glitch, it stops “leving” and that looks and sounds about like you’d imagine. Picture Dino DeLaurentis filming it. Boom! Bang! Ahhhhhhhhh!!!
Isn’t it funny how the ONLY thing liberals are interested in saving is energy? Sure not national sovereignty. Certainly not babies. Not culture, heritage, or patriotism. Not national pride. Not the economy.
Just energy.
Maglev requires either immense amounts of power or superconductors, neither of which is cheaper than wheeled railcars.
They are going to need either a lot of reactors or a lot of coal plants to generate the electricity that all of these ‘clean energy’ devices are going to need.
Controlling our energy supply is controlling our lifestyle.
Hopefully this firm isn’t a division of Fiat?
“Whatever happened to maglev? 50 years ago it was the bees knees, to liberals, and it is basically no where to be found except for a 30 km stretch in China..”
Do your homework!

Grumman Aerospace, in the time nefore the merge with Northrop, had proven this could work.
I don't understand the question. What about maglev technology is "liberal?" They're more expensive to build than regular high speed trains and (with the possible exception of the technology described in this article) can't use existing track infrastructure, which has prevented them from catching on. China only started building high speed rail recently (2007) but since then they have built 28,000 miles of track traveling up to 240 mph. The US has a grand total of zero miles of high speed rail.
Maglev? And what about Monorail?
Take the rail bed lines and convert them to guide paths of low flying vehicles, not “mag lev” but flying.
