The funniest comedian. Uncle Buck, Planes Trains and Automobiles, Stripes...
But one movie he really shined in was a little film he did with Ally Sheedy where she’s a mortician and he’s a lonely cop. Funny, and unbelievably poignant.
He was a gem.
Me too. I never hated any movie he was in and always thought his acting stood out against his co-stars. Yes, I don’t think any of his movies, nor him, won any Oscars, but that is less impportant (to me) than just being entertaining.
Summer Rental was my favourite of his. Also liked him as The Beaver in SCTV’s send up of the show, with Catherine O’Hara as the flirty June Cleaver and Joe Flaherty as the drunken Ward.
I liked him in Uncle Buck, and in Stripes.
The state of the Oscars these days might make not getting one a good thing.
He appeared ill and tired in his last film, ‘Wagons East’. He died before it was released.
John Candy was truly funny.
Chris Farley was NOT funny.
Norm MacDonald and Dennis Miller were funny.
Chevy Chase: Not funny.
Met him a few times at his house, they lived at 1630 Mandeville Cyn in Brentwood, they were both really nice people, but all of old Hollywood was.
My John Candy favorites are Uncle Buck, Spaceballs, 1941, and Stripes
I know. Rest In Peace, John.
Their polka send up of Michael Jackson songs was brilliant.
I love “Spaceballs”, “Who’s Harry Crumb?”, “Uncle Buck”, “The Great Outdoors” and “Heavy Metal”.
His movies were good, but I think I liked his SCTV bits best, like Johnny Larue and Dr. Tongue.
“Park’s Closed!”
Ditto. Miss him. [RIP]
all the wannabes that followed him were most annoying wannabes.
We can agree to disagree…Chris Farley was hilarious. He killed me with Matt Foley, living in a van down by the river.
He and Tom Hanks were great together in “Volunteers.”
The Great Outdoors. Funny stuff. After he ate the Ol 96er Dan Akroyd. Look at the maggots on that meat. 😂
