What I don’t understand is why so many people here on are on the phone with customer service so much. Me? Maybe once every couple years.
It’s ludicrous, though, for a company to use someone who speaks English as a second or third language to solicit customers by phone.
I don’t have to put up with the phone solicitors because I don’t answer the phone if the number does not show up as recognized by my caller ID.
Any time I get the message “Press 1 for English” I just hang up and will not proceed.

Who says they are foreign people when 4% of U.S. adults are considered “functionally illiterate,” 21% of adults in the U.S. read below a 5th-grade level, and 19% of high school graduates in the U.S. can’t read. This is the land of opportunity and phone callers don’t require a resume. So almost a quarter of the American population doesn’t read or write our language past Dick and Jane either. Overseas labor is cheaper.

My phone has ID on it and if I get a phone number with a fake computer phone number listed as the incoming call I don’t even bother answering it. Or I hang up mid-ring. I figure anything relevant would be leaving a message but they never leave a message.
Also That government do not call website is totally ineffective.
I see a lot of Spanish commercials, too. Infuriating.
That’s what I do. If I don’t recognize the number I don’t answer. Most of them don’t leave a voicemail.
LOTS of India call centers have been replaced with Philippines call centers. Since the wife is Filipino I get the accent instantly, and have very little trouble understanding them. (They were moved to The Fills because Filipinos generally speak better English and are easier for us to understand).

Yes, very happy. Not the cheapest cell phone service in the market, but conservative, and they don’t march in tranny parades.

I make them slow down by saying i cannot understand you and you must speak slower.
i say that until they listen, slow down and make them start ALL OVER AGAIN from the beginning... sounds cruel but it works.

Almost always. Only company I’ve had to phone in the last few years that has Americans to talk to is........that evil Citibank!
And its not just the syntax. Between the mispronounced, misused, and flat out imaginary words even a good jive translator cant keep up.
