Newly Found Remains of a 390 Million-year-old Forest Reveals Something Mysterious About Ancient Trees
The Debrief ^ | March 8, 2024 | MJ Banias

Researchers have uncovered the earliest fossil evidence of ancient forests in the British record. The findings uncover a novel and unrecognized 390-million-year-old forest landscape that sheds new light on the early evolution of Earth's land-based biosphere.

...the study focuses on the Middle Devonian (Eifelian) Hangman Sandstone Formation in Somerset and Devon, in Southwest England, and reveals an ancient era where a forest would have lived, dominated by cladoxylopsid trees...

These trees, growing up to 2-4 meters tall, had narrow trunks with an expanded rounded base up to 20 cm in diameter and small roots. They formed densely spaced forests, shedding abundant plant debris...

The trunks of these ancient trees were hollow in the center, and had rings of woody support strands around the outside. Leaves would have been fairly new on the evolutionary timeline, showing up about 20 million years prior to this forest; these trees had twig-like structures protruding from the branches...

One of the more remarkable findings was at Culver Cliff in Somerset, where at least 17 cladoxylopsid tree trunks were found preserved on a single bedding surface. The trunks, measuring 5-10 cm in diameter and up to 1.4 meters in length, provide a glimpse into the spacing and density of these ancient forests. These were tight spaces, jam-packed with early life.

But these ancient forests were responsible for something else. They played a key role in shaping the earliest 'modern' riverbanks.

The study's authors suggest that the cladoxylopsid trees colonized a sizable distributive fluvial system that essentially reshaped the landscape between land and a nearby waterway. All this flora was responsible for sediment accumulation, and their roots held the soils together enough to essentially create an early riverbank.

When those trees fell over, did they make a sound?

The researchers argue that these trees served as biogeomorphic agents, profoundly changing Earth’s landscapes and biosphere during the Devonian period.

That sounds like climate change to me.

Plants did it before humans ever existed.

We need to eliminate plants to preserve Gia pristine

The arrogance of these people is just astounding. They seem to think the Earth has always been as it is today. They seem to forget we are emerging from an ice age and things are just getting a little warm.

ACTUAL Christians believe in the Bible — ALL of it.

Maybe some day you’ll convert.

6000 years is not biblical. You don’t see that number in the Bible. 6000 years is merely calculation that some guy made in the 19th century. It’s beginngs roughly coincide with the beginning of the Jewish calendar. The jewish calendar in turn begins with the beginnings of the Sumerian civilization from which Abraham came —6000 years ago.

MJ Banias has a split personality or was copying other’s works, imo. He goes from “jam-packed” to “distributive fluvial system”.

They look like a dinosaur species of aliium, which people grow for flowers these days. Various cultivars range from a foot to three feet tall.

I might be remembering wrong but I believe Abraham was about 4,000 years ago. There were great upheavals in the middle east around that period. A few years ago Sunken Civ posted information about a mile wide meteor crater discovered in the Arab marshes after Saddam Hussein drained the marshes. Enemies of his dictatorship had used the marshes to hide in and the crater was found after the land dried out. I wonder how much devastation a meteor strike that big could have caused to middle east civilizations? Around 4,000 years ago was a time of significnt change in a number of middle east kingdoms.

Regarding climate change. The problem these days is that the change is occurring very rapidly. Too fast for many living creatures to adapt and survive. Normally climate changes much more gradually. However, large meteor strikes, huge volcanoes and the like can make for very sudden changes resulting in periods like “nuclear winter”. A huge volcanic event around 74,000 years ago was the eruption of Toba. It left a giant crater about 16 by 65 miles. Indonesia I think. It could have caused a nuclear winter around 10 years long. It appears to have lowered the humanoid population to only a few thousand mating pairs with significant effect on our DNA.

Yellowstone has had 3 huge eruptions, and many smaller ones. Big ones around 2 million years ago, 1.3 million, and 600,000+ years ago, leaving ash beds many yards thick over vast areas.

Note: I would leave links or more precise dates, but my old Cromebook is too uncooperative for me to risk moving back and forth while writing a comment, as all I have written could just disappear while shifting tabs.

The geology of Mount St. Helen’s in Washington state looks very much like the Grand Canyon. But Mount St. Helen’s blew up in 1980.
We have contemporaneous evidence from 1980 showing that the changes that uniformitarians allege prove an old earth, actually show the opposite.
Before insulting someone else, consider that the “experts” are frequently just people who can’t differentiate fact from opinion.
