Famed NBA sports analyst Kenny Smith is getting torched for his curious coverage of the 3-point shooting contest between superstar Steph Curry and WNBA sharpshooter Sabrina Ionescu.
In the first-ever contest between a man and a woman player in the long-distance shooting exhibition at the NBA All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis, Curry edged Ionescu in points, 29-26.
This match was arguably the most anticipated and entertaining event of the weekend which included the traditional 3-point shooting contest, All-Star Celebrity Game, the Skills Challenge, and the Rising Stars game.
Smith, who is a co-host on TNT’s “Inside the NBA,” objected to the fact Ionescu shot with a WNBA basketball, which is smaller than an NBA ball, but still shot from the NBA’s 3-point line instead of the WNBA’s 3-point line which is a shorter distance.
Listen to the argument Smith was embroiled in with Hall of Famer Reggie Miller:
Smith adamantly refused to change his stance, inciting a fellow NBA star Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers to take a shot at Smith.
Smith is not as well known as his counterparts Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley, but he still commands respect as a former player and NBA champion.
Despite his career credentials and reputation as a man of reason, many fans still registered disgust with Smith’s statements.

That’s it? That’s all he said incur the wrath of the PC crowd? He’s right — in a fair competition they should use the same size basketballs.
Funny how whoever gets “torched” always violates some woke, PC shibboleth.
This shows the degree to which our civilization has been feminized.
The NBA was fun to watch back when the players played Defense. Now, they score 130points a night.
That’s like having women’s tees in a co-ed long drive competition.
Tell me about it. Mahomes would have been flattened in the NFL anytime before the 2010’s, and l3flop would have gotten an elbow in the face if he pulled his antics in the 80’s or 90’s.
Maybe Curry uses the small ball or they mix it up?
Can you imagine Michael Jordan or Larry Bird in a 3 pt competition against a WNBA "star"?
How do you write women so well?
I think of a man and I take away reason and accountability.
We needed to change the rules to protect the QB. While we're doing that, we have to limit the QB in what he can do. One of my proposed rule changes would be that the QB is forbidden from running the ball.
That would limit the damage Mahomes can do on the field if he is limited to passing the ball or handing it to the running back.
Sheesh…have them first shoot from the women’s line and with the women’s ball. Then shoot again from the men’s line with the men’s ball.
It would be like land speed record cars having to go both directions and averaging the time.
Smith is right, but isn’t it funny they gave the girl an advantage and she still came up short.
What they should do is have an all WNBA shootout. One biological female. And one female with a penis.
Grab the popcorn and watch the one with testicles score 15 points over the biological.
In this competition, she would have beat either of them. Steph Curry holds the NBA record for 3 pointers, and is probably the best 3-point shooter of all time. Of course the WNBA uses "youth size" basketballs like 14 and under boys.
Fran Tarkenton broke my heart too many times. I followed him from my Giants to the Vikings where he made it to the Super Bowl 3 times and lost all three times. Only to be outdone by Jim Kelly who lost 4 Super Bowls. Whatever the outcome I still had to get up and go to work the next day.
J D Underwood. sex and culture. Everybody should read it.
