Those were the first three reactions that could be heard after two British climate activists threw tomato soup on one of Vincent Van Gogh’s sunflower paintings at the National Gallery in London in a video that went ultra-viral earlier this month.
The emotional register of those reactions — rage, sadness, shock — were a preview of what was to come. They foreshadowed the most common responses countless people on social media had to the action, during which one activist queried: “What is worth more? Art or life?”

I’d say that those works of art are worth more than the protestors’ lives. The art is timeless. No one would miss these worthless fools

One of the first methods we learned about in logic and propaganda courses was “False Choice.”
It works well with very young toddlers: “Little Johnny, would you like to go to bed now or in 5 minutes?” Little Johnny’s brain weighs the two choices and picks “In 5 minutes.” Then in 5 minutes when you send him to bed, if he whines you remind him, “That’s what you wanted.” His little brain somehow knows that’s not REALLY what he wanted but can’t figure out how to express it, so reluctantly feeling trapped by the choice he made, he goes off to bed.
These kids really think the world has to decide between “life” and “art.” They have the brain of a 4 year old toddler.
IF this happened in Singapore or God forbid an Arab nation they would be lucky to only be caned in public.
In Iran they would stone them.
In Afghanistan they would chop their right hand off.
In Saudi Arabia they would be throw in prison.
