Dakota Johnson and Justin Timberlake had a successful evening on Saturday Night Live this weekend, with surprise appearances from Jimmy Fallon, as well as Shark Tank judges Mark Cuban and Barbara Corcoran. But many viewers were surprised – and somewhat confused – to see Dave Chappelle standing onstage during their goodbyes.
The comedian appeared to join the cast on stage for no reason at all. To the far left of the stage, SNL cast member Bowen Yang, who has become an audience favorite since joining in 2018, can be seen standing far from the cast, unsmiling.
In a video from that evening, Yang’s castmate Sarah Sherman can be seen engaging in a brief conversation with him at the side of the stage. After Yang says something, she then appears to crane her neck to catch a glimpse of Chappelle, who is standing on the far other side of the stage. The clip then shows her saying something to Yang while comfortingly rubbing his arm.
The clip circulated on X, where some SNL fans praised Yang’s reaction to sharing a stage with Chappelle.
“Bowen Yang is so real for this,” one user tweeted.
“This moment of Bowen and Sarah realizing that Chappelle has randomly gotten on stage for the goodnights is really just a bummer to watch,” another wrote.
“The future of SNL is bright with these two. Glad to see them not hiding their feelings about this,” a viewer wrote, referring to Yang and Sherman.
The comedian has been accused of being transphobic and homophobic in his recent comedy specials. GLAAD condemned his 2021 Netflix special The Closer, which showed Chappelle loudly declaring that he’s “Team TERF!” meaning a trans-exclusionary radical feminist.
Chappelle did not appear in any sketches that evening.
He last hosted Saturday Night Live in 2022, during which reports claimed some of the staff writers boycotted the show.
He’s not pro hamas. He expressed support for the innocent people caught up and being killed, both Israeli and Palestinian.
I’d have to agree. Smoker and drinker there. Asian wife. Listens to music. Smokes weed. Has alphabet people friends, except for T’s.
I am aware of his religion. But from a standpoint of how he lives his life he’s not particularly observant of his religion’s strictures.

Chappelle doesn’t limit himself and his comedy by liberal ideology like virtually all the others do, including the entire SNL wishful comedians clique.
I particularly enjoy his wit and his clarity, and honesty, at least in his performances. Not just a dumb liberal ideologue like almost all the rest.
The fact the left gets p1ssed at him so much and want to cancel him, hes hitting truth in his comedy. And thats the best comedy, comedy that has truth in it.
I don't have a problem with him being liberal as long as he's not woke. So he's good with me.
Tom Cruise is another one. But that's because he's a scientologist. Whatever. He knows how to make movies.
I didn’t say he was a liberal either. I was pointing out what he doesn’t do that so many others do.
Bowen Yang is a Racist!
Is this Bowen Yang some kind to transit whatever? Never heard of it.
“Mincing little sissy” would be my choice of words, but ok.
Who cares? This little snowflake thinks Chapelle is bad? Its comedy. Mr Yang wouldn’t have lasted very long on SNL back in the day I reckon. Wasnt old SNLs claim to fame its irreverence? To political and social issues?
Like many who call themselves Christians yet support abortion, homosexuality, and the whole trans stuff.
Actually fits well with the if I think I am a dog I am, if I believe all these things but call myself a Christian, I am.
If Chappell went to Iran he would be called an apostate and treated accordingly
When you hear the term radical muslim just substitute orthodox muslim
I didn’t notice anything different. What a waste of time.
Communists have no sense of humor.
Last time I watched SNL Jane was an ignorant slut.
he’s the new gay darling of the hip NY audience.
Excellent FR keyword: saturdaynightvile.
from Wiki
Chappelle converted to Islam when he was 17. He told Time magazine in May 2005:
I don’t normally talk about my religion publicly because I don’t want people to associate me and my flaws with this beautiful thing. And I believe it is beautiful if you learn it the right way.[41]
Chappelle appears in a video explaining the religious history of the Well of Zamzam in Mecca.[156] He has also explained that his faith helped him use his career to benefit people.[157]
What is the “right” way, learned about Islam and read the Koran, when deployed to Middle East and after.
If the right way means not being taught the whole “religion” and it’s history, then I guess it’s possible.
My understanding is not so gracious
