The world's largest cruise ship has begun its seven-day maiden voyage from Port Miami - carrying nearly the population of a small city onboard.
The Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas set sail today on a seven-day island-hopping voyage in the Caribbean before returning to Miami.
The $2 billion ship runs nearly 1,200 feet (365 meters) from bow to stern and has 20 decks, 2,350 crew, 2,805 staterooms along with room for 7,600 passengers.

Yup. I hate crowds. Have a powerboat and two jet skis and lakefront.
And very few neighbors. The sound of the loons at night is very therapeutic.
If folks want to go to cities, casinos, float around on a crowded barge, that's their problem.
I think I would enjoy that.
Years ago, I had a subscription to Smithsonian Magazine, and they started sending me brochures for their travel packages, some including river cruises on small ships or by land or rail. But OMG! They are expensive!
But one reason for that is that all the travel packages include guides who are experts in the interest areas of the various travel packages, i.e. historians, art historians, archeologists, astronomers, zoologists, etc., and is more geared towards an educational experience rather than the normal tourist experience.
Not something I could ever afford unless I one day on a whim bought a Mega Millions ticket (which I rarely if ever do) and hit a huge jackpot. But if I did, I might consider it then. LOL!

I guess it wouod,be the variety of shows and different resteraunts, shopping both on board and when the cruise stops for onshore visits if they do, plus getting to know others, meeting what could, become lifelong friends and such.
All could be done on land without a cruise, but cruises are becoming more like tsking a vacation. At an exotic spot, (those that stop at different destinations) and offer a lot to do in a relatively “smaller area” than on an actual land vacation spot.
I’ve never been, but onow folks who have and they loved it- I’m too worn out to enjoy a hectic pace like that, but healthier couples who like the party life find lots to do on the ships- there’s just so much entertainment and movies, and dinners to try e5c etc etc- it packs a lot into a short time.
Cruises are for those who lack the will and ability to actually travel.
Ugly a hell, though.

Oh I agree on that.
Being on board a ship is somewhat like being in prison with a risk of drowning.
I agree...that thing looks tacky. Like a floating Chucky Cheese!
What decks with chairs?
I cruised on the Norway in 1992, the last cruise ship that actually looked like an ocean liner. It’s now scrap. Now the cruise ships look like a science fiction writer’s vision of a space ship.
Yes! Perfect.
Oh yeah, we were assigned tables, and one of my table mates was Herbert Anderson, Dennis the Menace’s dad in the tv series. He was a true gentleman. The food was fantastic. The food and the food service on more recent cruises was diner food.
Lol, it ain’t that bad. Would be nice though if they allowed fishing, make it more like a fishing trip for the sportsmen and women.

There was something about the crew arranging the deck chairs while the titanic was sinking- maybe it was just a saying/Proverb for life or something. Meaning taking care of little things while ignoring the larger problem
There were leaves in the outhouse. We figured it out.
Wow. She's a big one!
The ship also has a structural feature designed as a dynamic art installation on its main access route, called 'The Pearl'
Now what does that remind you of?
Floating hotels with casino like atmosphere. Drunk loud morons to contend with and God forbid the sewage system malfunctions. No Danke.
I understand the reference. My point is that while building a vessel to accommodate 8,000 paying customers, the experience of enjoying the salt air from the comfort of a deck chair doesn’t exist because the decks are gone.
I fear tragedy on a grand scale
I’ll go on it in a few years when the price goes down some. I’m going on celebrity in April. Two cruises a year. They are the most economical vacation you can take especially for a family of 6.
