Friends and family members of the three men say that they had all gathered at a friend’s house to watch the Kansas City Chiefs game against the Los Angeles Chargers on the night of Jan. 7.
The Kansas City Police Department announced that the men’s bodies were discovered at 9:51 p.m. Jan. 9 after one man’s fiancée requested a welfare check.
One man’s body was found on the back porch of the home on the 5200 block of NW 83rd Terrace, while the other two were in the backyard.
The men had apparently frozen to death.
John Picerno, an attorney representing the homeowner, said his client had no idea his friends were dead until police knocked on his door.
“He had no knowledge that they remained in his backyard or that they needed medical attention,” Picerno stated in a news release sent to FOX 4.
Moreover, the attorney claims, his client did not hear two people that came looking for the men at his house – he was allegedly sleeping with headphones and a loud fan. Although the attorney acknowledged that one of the men’s wives contacted his client on Facebook Messenger, he said the homeowner did not see the message until after police made contact.
Although two of his friends’ cars were parked on the street outside his house, Picerno said, it “would not be unusual for his friends to have left their cars there overnight.”

Alcohol may have been involved.
Just speculating, but alcohol and cold weather are a deadly combination.
Yeah.... how big was bet he lost to them?
And/or drugs.
Doesn’t pass smell test.
One on the back porch the other two in the yard. A sad way to lose your life. We will see what the Autopsy says.

“...alcohol and cold weather are a deadly combination.”
The daughter of some very famous Dem pol froze to death in a snowbank, or something like that, coming home blitzed once night. It was some mid-Western guy, maybe McCarthy or McGovern, I always get them confused. Terrible story, she was a young woman too.
If anyone catches follow ups on this and sends pings, include me.
People should be watching the weather reports when they live in areas of the country which are prone to severe weather and always be prepared to stay put if conditions deteriorate.
I am constantly appalled at the number of people who dress so inappropriately for winter weather. Absolute foolishness to go out in conditions like that.
Freezing to death in a friend’s back yard? Frankly, that sounds more like A&M Aggies fans than Chiefs fans.
Course, being sober would go a long way to making better judgment calls about the weather. And at least, there is not the risk of passing out outside in subzero temperatures.
I once knew of a woman in her early 30s. Divorced, went out drinking with friends. Made it home though pretty inebriated.
Dropped her keys while trying to open the front door. Lost balance and fell when she tried to bend down to pick them up. Dozed off before she could get up.
Her ex found her the next morning frozen to death when she didn’t come over to his house to pick up the kids.
It happens. And more than a few suburban people in the right design of neighborhood don’t look out the back door during bitter cold weather. If you don’t have a dog or a reason to.
Must have been one hell of a party.
Probably passed out drunk. Sadly.
They drank too much and then passed out. But they should know better. Kansas City gets really cold. It ain't Florida.
Knew a lady whose ex died this way. He got hammered and for some reason went out back to take a leak. Passed out face down and froze to death. Wasn’t found for two days.
