Video shot Wednesday captures the moment a cabin was swept onto a rocky shore in the town of Owls Head.
Located in southern Maine, Owls Head experienced a winter storm Tuesday with winds powerful enough to push water onto the shore and flood homes.
After the storm, the water level reached nearly 14 feet by Wednesday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. This exceeds the area’s flood stage of 12 feet. The video begins with the cabin in the water about 9:15 a.m. According to C.L. Alden, who shot the footage, the cabin came from a small island nearby.

Maybe the owners can move into that “Luxury Apartment” building they made for the somalis, and like the somalis, get the taxpayers to pay for their stay until they get back on their feet. No?
Hopefully it was unoccupied. I scanned the article so I might’ve missed any news about the residents.
Impressive!
Call the Maine Cabin Masters!
My woke azz social justice, BLM supporting, environmentalist brother that I haven’t spoken with in 14 years or so lives in Owls Head in the same house he bought back in 74.
I’m sure he’s bitching about climate change caused by right wing extremist.
Read the headline six times or more and still do not get it. Swept away before it lands?!
My environmentalist brother in law lives on Southport island, and sent video footage of this same house (that he filmed) as it actually untethered. I thought it would be his video that the Post used, but it’s not. He’s such a know-it-all. He used to be a nice enough guy years ago, but he’s become unbearable to be around for very long about 15-20 years ago. Always some argument when he’s around now. Don’t know how my SIL lives him.
I call my mother, a lifelong democrat who will be 90 this year, (who also lives a short way from Owls Head) every Sunday. Yesterday she said; “What do you think of the news about Maine?”
I said; “The states run by idiots but they keep getting elected by people like you. How do you feel about illegal immigrants getting free housing for 2 years in new apartments in Brunswick at your expense?”
She huffed and said “ I was talking about the weather. I don’t talk politics with you!”
This is the biggest storm since 1978.
Between the Tonga volcanic activity and the spring tides storm surge which refers not to seasons but to the alignment of the moon and sun gravitational pull. .. the tides are high.
Yep !
I got a good chuckle out of your conversation with your Mom.
This is the biggest storm since 1978.
The Ice Storm of 1978 will fight you on that.
This has been our third storm in about two weeks. Two have been wind and rain events and the third was a standard snowstorm that dropped 8 t 10 inches. That snow is now gone.
Owls Head is not in southern Maine. It is in Midcoast Maine. Not sure why this shack got the NY Post coverage, as an even more iconic set of fishing shacks collapsed into the sea in South Portland Maine.

Pictures of another building destroyed by the storm in Georgetown.
The article refers to “Southwest of Owls Head in the community of Georgetown” Owls Head is 40 miles as the crows flys from Georgetown. Probably at least 60 miles by car.
78 had a number of storms. The spring tide storm was the most notable. Hellbthe next year there was a flooding storm that left cars up to their aerials in stroudwater. I was there.
Oops, that should have been 1998.
I had to laugh at your convo with your mother, but I’m sure it’s no fun to live with. At least you can see how your brother turned out that way. My condolences. Many families have this condition now.
When I was growing up learning about the Civil War, we were taught it was often “brother against brother”, and groups would split off into northern and southern sympathizers — during the CW, there were two Methodist churches in the same block in the next town up from us, one for the blues and the other for the grays. And now, many of us are beginning to feel how these things could happen.
Funny you bring up the Civil War... I left Maine in 1980 after joining the Navy. Been all over the world and lived south of the Mason Dixon line ever since. Wife and I retired and live in Georgia. I consider myself a gray now !!
Yep. “Born American; Southern by the grace of God.”
