Critical Airspace Warning: Extreme Radiation Hazard at Kwajalein Atoll #image_title A Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) has been issued for Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands, warning of a severe radiation hazard. The airspace north of the airport’s runway should be avoided at all costs, as it poses significant risks to life. In order to mitigate these dangers, all flights are directed to utilize southern approach and departure routes instead. This information has been provided by the International Civil Aviation Organization.
So.ething sounds amiss.
Doubt this crew of .misfits in DC have a clue of what is happening.
Do not assume that “radiation” here means gamma or neutron. It may mean microwave.
Space Force maintains a 32 MEGAWATT phased array radar there for tracking space objects. My guess is that they’re doing something with it.
operates the AN‐FSY‐3 Space Fence Phased Array Radar, located on Kwajalein Atoll in the Republic of the Marshall Islands. Combined, the two radars track more than 26,000 Near‐Earth and Deep‐Space objects. The 20 SPSS is a geographically separated unit (GSU) of Delta 2, Peterson Space Force Base, Colorado.
...
Why blame me
Pictures of the area north of the runway showing dead vegetation, etc would be helpful but I already know that they don't exist.
There are several bunkers on Roi Namur. You can see where they were hit by US ships.
Agreed. Radiation is “scary” so folks will heed the warning. I don’t have the time now, but how much radiation would there need to be to be considered a hazard to someone flying 500 feet above it for a few seconds? I imagine Chernobyl was...maybe?
Even a 100 watt CO2 laser can put holes in you just like a hunting arrow or a bullet. High level RF signals could easily damage flight control systems on an aircraft, leading to a disaster.
There are a lot of radar emitters located north of the airfield, there is probably a test, or perhaps some kind of maintenance where significant emissions are planned.
“What I need is something so scary it’ll clear three hundred square miles of every living Christian soul.”
If that’s the case, what are they looking at? Asteroid heading this way? Or Aliennns!!!
I haven’t seen that. Another in the realm of possibilities. Rare is it seeing and hearing the truth from our elite rulers, so anything is plausible.
I’m going to search for that movie after I get done with Reacher.
not in perview.
i know kwajalein USED tp be a targ et for delivery of dud warheads from American test launches of ICBMs for acciracy.
“Just like that, the place is too radioactive?”
It’s slow-going in spots, and weird in others. Won’t give away the ending - I’ll just say certainly a product of its time.
The official story is that they look for bits of space junk in orbit which may present a hazard to spacecraft, and try to chart their orbits.
An orbiting stray bit of metal, impacting at 5 miles/sec, would be upsetting to most astronauts.
They’re looking to the WEST down near the horizon. Likely towards China and/or NK.
When I was at Kwaj doing some interference testing on their C-Band PAR and the THAAD prototype that end of the island was pretty well controlled traffic-wise. That C-band PAR was essentially the prototype design for the later SBX seaborne radar.
I am pretty sure that SBX is X-Band. Someone said that they are testing a high energy antiballistic missile system. There is certain irony in that, in that British radar designs were a fall out from an attempt to design a “death ray” to shoot bombers out of the sky. The analysis showed that it was not practical (using 193’s technology) but it was possible to “see” them. The atoll must have the most RF energy per square mile of any place on earth.
