Illinois gun groups report confusion, 'civil disobedience' after deadline passes to register 'assault' weapons

Illinois gun groups are reporting confusion from gun owners as the state pushes for them to register "assault" weapons under the state's new ban.

Jan. 1 marked the deadline for Illinoisans to register their assault weapons with the state before the ban signed by Democratic Gov. J.B. Pritzker takes effect on Jan. 10.

Eldridge said "the confusion is that nobody can tell you what's covered by this act." For example, one county prosecutor posted a notice that by Jan. 1, everyone must register their assault weapon and high capacity magazines — but Eldridge noted that magazines "aren't required to be registered."

"Nor could they be," Eldridge said. "They have no serial number."

"Then more recently, you had this governor stating on camera that automatic and semi-automatic firearms and high capacity magazines must be registered," he said. "Well, automatic is not mentioned once in the act, and as we talked about just a second ago, magazines aren't covered, so, well, one out of three is pretty good for this governor on anything gun related."

Eldridge also said "civil disobedience" is another factor at play with the low registration numbers.

"Almost every sheriff and most of the county state's attorneys have stated they will not enforce this act," he said. "So residents of those counties had very little incentive to register."

A spokesperson for the Illinois State Police (ISP) told Fox News Digital that "not every FOID cardholder owns a gun," which Eldridge disputed.

"The state police don't know how many FOID cardholders are firearms owners, but I think it's safe to say that most individuals are not going to go through the time, expense and invasive background check to get a FOID card if they don't intend to purchase a firearm," he said.

It’s a shame. They were all lost when the canoe capsized

I have a new fishing technique. I no longer use bait and hooks in my local lake. I use an industrial class electromagnet. I did not catch one damn fish but MAC-10s, ARs, and many fine pistols were in abundance. Damn shame about those tragic boating accidents. /S

So, if I was a gun owner, am I supposed to access the ‘news’ 24/7, to find out what they are after me for?

Exactly. I ignore this if I live in Illinois.

Took me a hour or so going over the registration website to see if I had to register my Ruger 10-22.
So when did a basic 22 rifle become an assault weapon after adding $70 worth of plastics.
Glad I kept it stock, otherwise it would have became a “Weapon of War “
Nothing like elected officials enacting laws about stuff they know nothing about.
Meanwhile here in good old land of Lincoln, crime is out of control.

I registered two on the list. My reasoning...right or wrong...is that Scotus will eventually overturn it before the democrat sonsofbitches in Springfield move to confiscate. In the meantime I’m covered and if all else fails I have a place outside of filthynois to move them.

And I registered my one and only “evil black rifle”. Same reason.
Another gun they want registered are handguns with threaded barrels. Suppressors are already illegal in Illinois, and have been for a long, long time, so what makes threads on the end of a barrel so dangerous?

Absolutely ridiculous…

Also, you cannot be charged with failing to register your “assault weapon” after the deadline because doing so would force you to admit to a crime and violate your Fifth Amendment right against self incrimination.

***and high capacity magazines***

Anyone remember the Edmond Oklahoma post office massacre in which the perp used TWO National Guard .45 ACP 45s. Both magazines held 7 shots. He killed 14.

The Illinois law is a joke. Anyone can walk across state lines and buy a 30 round magazine from about any farm supply or gun store for about $25.

.223 has a higher energy than a .357 That may punch a hole in you clean through and you live or the .357 may expand into a gaping hole your fist would go through and you’d bleed out in seconds.

That's almost as bad as a 9mm! It'll blow your lungs right out! :0)
