Los Angeles Police officers were called to reports of a burglary at an address in the Granada Hills neighborhood on Saturday morning Four suspects had entered a home and had allegedly threatened the homeowner with a gun But the homeowner then shot one of the suspects, who died at the scene

The other three suspects fled the scene and have not yet been identified, but police said a 'trail of blood' suggested one of them had been injured.

'It is believed that an additional suspect was injured during the incident due to a trail of blood located during the investigation,' authorities said.

There was also a grandmother and a toddler in the house at the time.

Video from the scene shows the unnamed male homeowner being detained by police during the initial investigation, but it is not known if he has been charged.

Neighbors were alarmed by the incident but told KTLA that they aren't surprised.

Pat Walsh said: 'We’ve been having burglaries every day in this neighborhood.

'So I’m not surprised at all. It’s been a real problem. Residents here are fed up.'

A homeowner shot and killed a home invasion suspect in Los Angeles early Saturday morning while a grandmother and toddler were in the house.

Officers were called to a home in Swinton Avenue in the Granada Hills around 5am on Saturday after someone reported a 'hot prowl' - a burglary where the homeowner is present.

'The officers’ preliminary investigation determined that approximately three to four armed males in their 20s entered the home with the intent to burglarize the location,' according to LAPD officials.

'A suspect pointed a weapon at the victim and while the suspects were inside the residence, the victim produced a firearm and a shooting occurred.'

If this was Texas he’d have gotten a medal and an Amazon gift card.

Folks, rarely are homes invaded, randomly.

The bad guys usually have a purpose for being there. That’s not to mean that all the homeowners are doing bad stuff, it just means that there’s a reason most pick a certain house.

Could just be they followed him home and wanted his car, a la John Wick.

Who knows?

This is Los Angeles. Of course he’ll be charged.

It could also be they found he had an outstanding warrant. Years ago a coworker called the cops because a bicycle was stolen off his porch. Got arrested for an outstanding traffic wwarrant. We need more information before going off half cocked.

Should have gone for broke and killed them all.

Perhaps he did. Seems like he hit a second person, who managed to get away with his friends.

If they were running away, that could get the homeowner a murder charge. It depends on the Prosecutor.

Authorities really don't want people to resist criminals with force. The "right to self-defense' really does not matter to them.

The police who arrive are nobody's friend. They are there to arrest somebody if they can.

The first to arrive on a home invasion call always assume they may be dealing with a drug dealer or drug warehouse robbery. They will be wary and suspicious. Even if they determine that is not the case, they may still have an unfavorable attitude about the homeowner.

The best thing to do in the aftermath is to shut up and wait for your lawyer to arrive. The police will take your weapon for "evidence" and you won't get it back for months - if ever. Give it up without argument. Get another one later.

If detained, just wait for your lawyer to do all the talking. Do not argue or speak with the police. You do not know what utterances will turn a detention into an arrest and charges.

John Elway played high school football at Granada Hills High School from 1974 - 1978.

I was in Granada Hills High the same time John Elway was. I had no idea until years later when they named a stadium after him.

If they charge him with anything except littering it will be an outrage.

Porter Ranch and Northridge are part of L.A also. San Fernando is its own city. Kind of an enclave surrounded by L.A. subdivions...AI report was probably stolen from PR from Granada Hills chamber of commerce cause it tries to make GH seem like some exclusive spot...it is a generally decent place...more of a suburban living area with smaller mall type businesses.

Yeah, there's always that question, but there has been a big uptick in "follow home" robberies, and burglaries in more affluent areas. From the article:
It follows a spate of 'dinnertime burglaries' in the area with burglars breaking into homes when they think residents are out for dinner.
Deputy Chief Hamilton said that the gang who attempted this robbery are likely related to other similar crimes that have occurred in the area.

Sadly, the mopes have finally figured out how to use their Google Maps ap on their Obama phones, and are driving up out of the hood into the hills where the pickings are richer, and there's a perception that they're less likely to get shot. You can bet that Gascon will be going over the victim's history and record with a fine-tooth comb to see if there's something he can be charged with.

I referenced what you comment on and you are right.

Shame that homeowner is going to be out through the wringer, at least, all for defending himself.
