College Football Playoff: Someone is going to be angry Five teams have legitimate cases. Only four teams will get a berth.

The Nightmare in Grapevine is upon us.

What is often a formality — making four obvious choices for the four-team College Football Playoff — is anything but for the committee this year.

The 13-member group, huddled in a hotel in Grapevine, Texas, will have to make the most consequential and controversial decision in its 10-year existence — and in the final season before the playoff expands to 12 teams. Their decision will be revealed at noon Sunday on ESPN.

Big Ten champion Michigan (13-0) and Pac-12 champion Washington (13-0) are assumed to be safely in. They’ll almost assuredly be the No. 1 and 2 seeds, respectively.

After that, there are three teams for two spots and there is no obvious answer.

Texas got beat by a no 8 ranked team, in a game that is traditionally like Alabama and Auburn, Chicago vs Green Bay, Phily vs Giants etc.

Alabama gives fantastic scholarships to out of state students. My daughter went there too from out of state. It included a year for graduate school also and lots of extras for technology products, exchange program funds and other stipends. Interestingly Arizona State had a great offer too, but we thought it was too far away.

Florida State is unbeaten. Why should they have to prove themselves to get in? If you want two teams to play their way in, it should be Texas and Alabama. And that game has already been played.

I quite agree with your assessment, though I always hold to the caveat, on any given game day, even the underdog can win. It’s often due to things that happen on the field, like injuries, or really horrible weather. Sometimes the referees.

I agree with you. What would piss people off the most?

1. Michigan
2. Washington
3. FSU
4. Georgia

The ACC normally sucks in football, but was the best conference in BB. This year it seemed that there were actually decent teams in the ACC and they essentially canabalized one another; that said, FSU earned it’s appearance, much to the deteriment of Bama.

Three undefeated conference champs, two and Texas at 12-1 who who beat Bama who beat Georgia.

1. Mich
2. Wash
3. FSU
4. Wash
5. Ohio State (lost to 3)
6. Bama (lost to TX at No 8 cannot jump 5 places defeating Georgia who MUST fall 4-5 places for losing, abit to #8 - not the #2/3 OSU-Mich matchup thus Bama is behind OSU even with a conference win.

7. Georgia
8. Oregon

You deserve what you win. The SEC is out. Go pout.

Texas is the second best team in Oklahoma.

Should the committee take into account FSU injuries and weaker schedule, IOWs at the end of the season, they are not as strong as they were earlier?

Washington beat some pretty tough teams. You could argue them being No. 1 and Michigan 2.

Texas, Bama, Georgia, FSU. I think of the four Bama is the strongest RIGHT NOW, Texas a close second.

Bama has had problems win the kicking dept. this year it’s solid. I think they have one of their best teams. Milrose is looking more and more like Hurts, their QB now with the Philies.

Bama could as easily have been 9-3 legimately this year. Aside from that Bama at #8 beating #1 only has so high a ceiling expecially when the committee signaled they would drop #2 OSU to 6 with Bama two back. Georgia has to drop 4-5 places after OSU’s Mich loss and Bama does not as the other 12-1 conference champ jump Texas who beat them. Nick rarely puts it on the line and this year his looked like it was when a Hail Mary got them to 11-1 against a 5-7 team. Bama is 6, Georgia 7, Oregon 8.

It’s an odd situation. In terms of the best teams in the nation, the two best are probably Georgia and Alabama. They will probably both be left out of the playoff.

I agree with you. They beat Bama when they were having issues with the QB position where they don’t now.

Still, seems like having the North, South, West, East represented makes sense.

Somebody was always angry. The 4 team playoffs for a sport with over 100 teams and 5 super conferences was always an idiotic half measure that truly failed every year. So no reason why it shouldn’t fail one last time.

Why do you have WASH on your list twice?

The Buckeyes lost to the #3 team UGA lost to the #8.

Go Bucks!

1. Mich
2. Wash
3. FSU
4. Wash

7. Georgia
8. Oregon

Texas, brain farts, this morning;)

Michigan took a legimate slot from OSU. If they bumped out Mich from the championship series of 3 three games, OSU would replace their stolen valor.

SEC was out last week when OSU was dropped to 6 losing to a 3. An eight will not pass TX who beat them when both are 12-1. Those arguing against FSU are delusional - they found their QB replacement evidenced by the last of the last in last night:) The Committee essentially signaled GA win and in, or a and Out the Same as OSU. In a world where GA gets the nod, they may drop to 6 and Bama 7, but I see them flipped. The same arguments Sabin and Kirby used last night works out to my list.

The reason the committee will put TX in and leave Bama out is that TX had a 27% chance of winning out, the lowest of any team in the top 8 this year. TX may have the COA.
