Isn’t it obvious that if a recreation surfaces people might enjoy, someone puts a price on it that the consumer can just barely pay or if it is worth it to purchase anyway. Pro athletes are overpaid also. And they generally don’t give the crabs to you in the stands.

First, I think you didn’t read the article. Second, It’s not about the money so much as it is about the time it takes to spend $2000 on dates. If you figure dinner and a movie for about $75-$100 (is this a reasonable amount? I haven’t dated in over 30 years) and maybe a couple of drinks for another $25-$50, you have quite a few dates she gets to know someone before she decides to sleep with him. By that time, she’ll decide if he’s a keeper or a throw back and cast again.
