Kevin Brennan, a former Saturday Night Live writer, has shrugged off criticism of jokes he made about the death of Friends star Matthew Perry.
Soon after TMZ reported on Perry’s passing on Saturday, Brennan posted on X (fka Twitter): “DROWNED IN A HOT TUB. HAHAHAHA.”
In another message he remarked on Perry’s well-documented history of abusing alcohol and prescription drugs, saying: “I do love it when junkies die.”
The host of The Misery Loves Company Podcast faced a backlash from X users over the remarks, with one person describing him as a “ghoul.”
Brennan, who worked on SNL between 1999 and 2000, appeared unperturbed by the anger. “Why is drowning in a hot tub funny,” asked one user, to which he replied: “Because it’s not very deep.”
By Monday, he appeared to be reveling in the publicity he had received over his remarks, posting a number of news stories based on his social media posts.
“Am I trending yet?” he asked, before linking to a New York Post article with the message: “I’m going to consider retirement. This is the pinnacle. Too many people to thank.”
Perry, one of the stars of the long-running television hit Friends, died October 28 from an apparent drowning in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home in the Pacific Palisades. He was 54.
An autopsy has been completed on the actor, but it is inconclusive pending toxicology tests, according to a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Matthew Perry, by all us depressives, was depressesed, he just did not do it naturally.
And they still can’t be bothered to take on the low-hanging fruit that is President Potatohead
Far as I can tell MP never hurt anyone but himself, so I don’t know why anyone would find this amusing.
I was never a fan of Matthew Perry, but the guy had problems, and they killed him.
I felt the same degree of dislike for this turd, for much the same reason:
Steve Irwin may have been corny, he may have been foolhardy, but the guy had a wife and a kid, and by all accounts, was a very nice, genuine, and congenial guy. But Maher had to poke fun at this.
Well. This guy Kevin Brennan, when he dies, will get his reward.

Determining the cause will take time.
Okaaaay...
There won’t be any jokes when Kevin Brennan dies because very few people would have known he was alive in the first place.
A lot of comedy writers have basically built their career on jokes like: “Republicans are stupid”. That one always brings down the house. So funny. The Matthew Perry non-jokes are much the same.
“Brennan, who worked on SNL between 1999 and 2000”
A nobody, couldn’t even hold down a SNL job. FOAD loser.
Who? Never heard of him.
Can anyone explain the humor? Basically, haha, a non-evil guy died? As for the junkies remark, yeah, they can screw people over to get money for their fix, but a Friends star is the last one to need money. He cut his life short, but that’s about it.
I don’t see the humor. Sometimes there are black humor jokes that are in bad taste, but are funny, but I don’t see it here.
Never heard of him.
He was on two episodes of SNL over 20 years ago.
I knew someone who was at the Playboy Mansion when Maher was, the Playmates called Maher “Little Bill”.
Maher is a raging alcoholic.
Cruelty is not funny. It is warped
Don;t know what he was aiming for, but he isn’t funny at all. He’s nasty and mean-spirited and comes off like a fool
Shouldn’t a comedian be funny?
They weren’t jokes. They were just ugly mean spirited slurs.
Pretty much par for the course for what stands for "comedy" these days.
