Trying to get a military honor guard for my husband’s Uncle’s funeral. He was 93 and served in Korea. We can’t find discharge papers. Government won’t give them because we aren’t “appropriate” kin. Husband has all POAs. Hello mcfly?! We are the only ones left alive!!! Not happy today. Maybe we should say he crossed the border. Then they would probably send them out.
Call your local VFW, or the Veteran’s Services Officer for your county.
Call your congress critter of Senator.
Veterans can also get a grave marker, tombstone, etc. My husband has helped several in his family and one in mine to obtain those. I think you still need the DD214.
Through all of this he found out about a great-great uncle of his he never knew existed. He died on Armistice Day in France, aged 22.
I believe the Clerk of Court of the county he enlisted in, should have the DD214. But the best advice, is to get a hold of the County Service Officer.
All excellent suggestion by other FReeQs.
I will throw in a last ditch idea just in case.
Just in case you can’t get satisfaction from the US military, maybe consider rounding up some veterans who would volunteer as an honor guard. I think most would step up for a fellow vet. Maybe they would be a little ragtag and maybe they would not be in uniform, but they would have the spirit.
