Having an argument with the wife, she doesn't want to spend the extra money. Anywhere from $1,000 on up.
Keep in mind that in the scenario you propose, the opponents had ARs or AKs. Engaging them as far away as possible would be desirable.
The AR-15 is great for general purpose defense use especially at longer ranges. It would be a much better choice in a defense situation similar to what was seen in the Hamas attacks.
For overall defense purposes an Israeli IMI Tavor X-95 is probably the best if you have not proper experience.
Much more compact than a AR-15 so better in close quarters.
A Palmetto State AR-15 is just as good of quality as a Sig 400 at a lower price point if you go the AR route.
12ga. Loaded alternately buck, slug, buck, slug.....Slugs will penetrate body armor w/o trauma plates.
CORRECTION: 20” BARREL, NOT 10”
Well, you get 9 rounds with your Mossberg tactical shotgun or 30 rounds with your AR so you tell me. 😏
Correction: 20” barrel, not 10”.
A lot of guys don’t know that back when the men were all WWII vets and Korean War vets and the young ones were fighting in Vietnam and everyone kept guns on display in the cabinet in their living rooms and hunting was common, we all just called
our magazines “clips”
Yup. Guess that dates me
Avoid Century Arms builds.
“it will destroy anybody or thing in front of it up to 25” away...’
I hope you meant feet not inches, because I really don’t want to get that close.
I suggest the “Keltec Sub2000 Folding/Pistol Caliber/Carbine” (hinged) that uses Glock 40 S&W magazines, along with any of the Glocks that accept 40 cal (I prefer the Glock 22 standard frame). Load up a bunch of mags and hide the mags throughout the home.
The Sub2000 folds in half and fits into drawers, nightstands, etc. It’s super easy to point and shoot, and is pretty accurate.
I see that Israelis living in Samaria have purchased hundreds of IWI Arad rifles.
It’s a kind of export alternative to the Tavor X95. The Arad was apparently more immediate available. Modular design that is versatile and compact.
Yep, that’s how I load mine, but I go slug, double ought buck, slug, etc. Always figured the first bad guy was going to be wearing body armor. A twelve gauge slug at point blank range might not kill him, but it sure as hell is going to put him down. Rack the slide and double ought will take care of the problem.
Ouch, thats cold.
I’ve also done the work, and COULD take that shot. I’d still rather take it with a carbine. I practice way more with the carbine than with the shotgun.
My experience has been pure joy. I call her Vera.
I was waiting for someone to bring up recoil. Also, the husband may be out of town and the wife is the only one there. As others have said, there are cheaper ar-15 options.
Do you actually expect to have gun-pickup trucks invading your home/neighborhood loaded with terrorists packing automatic weapons, grenades and RPGs?
Go with what’s the simplest possible for the most likely circumstance.
Personally, I wouldn’t recommend an AR to anyone that isn’t likely to put in the real time it would take for them to be proficient with it.
