A British woman surprised her American husband by making a bacon sandwich the traditional 'English' way - and says he was bowled over by the tasty treat. But her recipe for the perfect snack has left many others in the US in uproar.
Caroline Parker, who now lives in Boston, Massachusetts, recently took to TikTok to divulge the secrets to the popular dish.
The mom-of-two revealed the ingredients that go into the perfect creation and also revealed that the key was not toasting the bread.
But other social media users were left stunned by the process and did not hold back in the comments.
In the clip, which has so far been viewed more than 2.1 million times, Caroline can be seen standing in her kitchen as she speaks directly to camera.
Holding a frozen loaf of bread and pack of bacon, she begins: 'I am going to make my American husband an English bacon sandwich because I went to the Irish shop... don't ask me how much I spent.'
She defrosts the bread as she explains: 'There's a big difference between American and English bread - if you know, you know.'
Caroline continues: 'Compared to American bacon, you have to put a little bit of oil in the pan because it just has less fat.
'Obviously with streaky bacon, you don't need oil. I made that mistake when I first moved here.
'I prefer my bacon like this but that is definitely just because I'm used to it. This is what we eat back home. I don't know if my husband likes it like this but he's going to have it.'
She lets the bacon cook away in a frying pan before turning her attention to making the perfect bready base.

Nobody in the world looks to the English for good food.
Gross. The only time I have bacon on bread is with a BLT.
It’s as much bacon as US bacon is. They have bacon made from pork bellies too, which is the aforementioned “streaky bacon” but thick cut; same thing.
One of my favorites from “The White Trash Cookbook” was bacon sandwiches. The difference is you fry the bacon, put it between slices of white bread (no butter or ketchup) and then fry the bread in the bacon grease.
After eating, use a knife or whatever is laying around to scrape your arteries clean.
im not complaining about the sammich
im in love with any woman who makes me a sammich
I think she nicked this from a low-carb recipe I saw online. Me, I adore a bacon sandwich, but I think it’s best served if you replace the bread with hamburger patties, the butter with cheese, and the bacon with more bacon. :)
“Nobody in the world looks to the English for good food”
Nonsense! They have good Indian food! Oh, and their fish and chips are unbeatable. I can’t seem to get a decent fish n chips in Reno.
I visited my sister in England several times when she was doing her Masters there and I was working in the Middle East. More than once, we boarded an early morning train to somewhere like Yorkshire or to Holyhead to catch a ferry to Dublin. We tended to be a little bleary, having had a few pints the night before and looked forward to the bacon “sarnies” we could get in the dining car.
They weren’t anything to write home about, but they did the trick at the time, coupled with the right amount of coffee. And they did not have ketchup on them. Eeeww.
The body needs fat/oils. Animal fats from a portion of meat are fine. Look at the vegetarians/vegans, their skin is horribly dry and wrinkled.
I am not talking guzzling a quart of animal fat. Just whats in a meal portion. You need a certain amount of healthy fat.
Beef tallow is healthier than frying it in any hydrogenated vegetable “oil”. Far better for you than corn oil, soybean oil, canola oil, cottonseed oil, sunflower oil,...
There used to be a good fish&chips place in San Francisco, off Union Square if I recall. But that was in the 1990s.
The only good food that I had when I was in London that I would classify as “good” was a steak I had at a steakhouse. Their beef is good. I also didn’t mind English breakfast, other than the weirdness of it including baked beans. Other than that, though, you have to go for non-British food, like the Indian food that is everywhere, to get something palatable.
I’ve heard comedians over the years joke about how bad English food is, but I found out they were right. Even in London, it was incredible how terrible the food was and how very few choices there are (other than steaks and Indian food, as I said).
Pork roll
The old joke on that goes like this:
Heaven is where the police are British, the cooks are French, the mechanics German, the lovers Italian and it’s all organised by the Swiss.
Hell is where the chefs are British, the mechanics French, the lovers Swiss, the police German and it’s all organised by the Italians.
I can see it.
My husband uses mayo instead of butter to make grilled cheese. And grilled peanut butter.
Once in a while I'll cook two or three slices of bacon, toast two slices of bread, cook two eggs over easy, put the eggs on top of the toast, put a slice or two of American cheese on top, then put the bacon on top of that, and put it in the oven long enough for the cheese to start melting. I eat it as an open-face sandwich with a fork and knife.
🤣👏
That's only because they colonized India, and stole their recipes. Queen Victoria, Empress of India, was a big fan of Indian cuisine. That's probably one of the reasons she was so fat.
...was a Subway sandwich I had the first day I arrived in London in May 2006. It was just a short walk from the hotel I was staying at near Victoria Station. There was also a Pizza Hut in the same area. Ate there once. The one time I had a burger in London, was in a restaurant in Victoria Station. It was terrible. You couldn't even taste the beef because it was infused with Worcestershire Sauce. I enjoyed the English breakfasts without the blood sausage or bangers. I tried the bangers, didn't care for them. In Belfast, Ireland, we were staying in the Europa Hotel (Europe's most bombed hotel). We ate in the hotel's restaurant. I ordered a ribeye steak. They asked me how I wanted it done, and I said medium. It came charred, and was so hard and dry, you couldn't even eat it. I went to London the following summer, and some friends who live in Liverpool wanted to come meet us for supper. We let them pick the restaurant, and they took us to T.G.I.F.'s, which was fine with me, as I enjoyed their Parmesan Chicken Salad...a little taste of home.
Nothing better than a BLT with fresh lettuce, tomatoes and Swiss cheese on Italian bread with mayo. Pickles on the side.
