It is highly unlikely that Governor DeSantis will win the GOP nomination. The recent Wall Street Journal poll has cemented this into my head.
Yet, I'm sticking with DeSantis until he's out of the race, whether that be on Election Day (unlikely) or he ends his campaign during the primaries (as of now, quite likely).
I'm sticking with him because nobody else has the record of conservative accomplishments and stalwart executive leadership that he has repeatedly demonstrated. I look for action, not words.
This being said, Governor DeSantis has showed himself to be poor campaigner. He just can't close the deal. And as much as I enjoyed the victories, I think his "war on woke" has hurt him.
The best chance he has now is to pivot to economic issues, which are Trump's strong points (at least for the first three years of his administration). But Florida has a booming economy as well, with a record $22 billion surplus last year.
This pivot will be a long shot and is unlikely to be successful because he would be going up against President Trump's strongest attributes.
This will be an election on the economy and when gas prices at the pump exceed $6-7/gallon next year (and I believe they will), Trump will remind us all that we were paying under $2/gallon for much of his first term. This is going to be a big selling point. If Trump screwed up everything in 2020, he had a booming economy with plenty of jobs and low interest rates prior to that. This can't be denied.
I am resigning myself to the reality that the primaries are essentially over and Trump will be the GOP nominee. And if he is, I will vote for Trump because at the end of the day, Trump is better than Biden. Hell, Nikki Haley, Chris Christie, Tim Scott, and Vivek Ramaswamy are better than Biden!
It's a shame though. GOP primary voters would rather be led by a cult of personality than a true executive leader with a record of accomplishments. It is what it is though.
I hope Trump can pull it off. His victory will depend on Biden voters staying home.
I hope that Trump can learn from his many mistakes and not repeat them.
I hope Trump can reconcile his disastrous record on COVID.
I hope that Trump can beat back against the myriad of unjust charges that he is currently facing.
Still, Ron DeSantis is the leader that Trump tries to be and that's the truth.
And when he keeps bashing DeSantis with lies, it only shows Trump as the sad, little man that he has become. He should as of now, stop being be this sad, little man.
I hope Trump can rise above this. As of now, he will earn my vote, but he needs to become a better man.
The second Alvin Bragg charged Trump, it was over.
Is Donald Trump a "Grantian" President?

You mean Trump? LOL
He's a miserable campaigner. The nomination really could've been his but he alienated so many. He's run a dated establishment campaign that still pits groups against one another while Trump continues to invite voters to claim their share of the American experience and Make American Great Again.
And as much as I enjoyed the victories, I think his "war on woke" has hurt him.
It's not the "war on woke" per se it's that he did these things trying to act like an alpha while Trump is seen as an alpha. No one outside the fishbowl of FL takes "never back down" seriously because DeSantis isn't viewed as authentic and too many see his wife as being behind his campaign. She's giving off two-for-one Hillary vibes. He's also a lawyer politician and people are tired of parsing what their leaders are saying. As Coulter said in 2016, Trump supporters take him seriously not literally.
There was definitely an opening for an alternative to Trump but I suspect that window is slowly closing. I'm disappointed because Trump has done many irritable things since screwing up his reelection and I'd like to move on. Unfortunately no one has emerged except grifters, hacks and establishment drones.
I do not believe a Trump 47 would be what Trump 45 was or could've been. I fear he'll be distracted by revenge seeking, he'll get no support (again) from his party and it'll be infinitely harder for him to draw quality appointees rather than sycophants and grifters than it was even in 2016. The law fare does not help one bit but there's no better choice likely to be on the ballot next Nov. Sad.
We're in perilous times as we fast approach our nation's 250th anniversary.
That’s a great post. Well said.
Ron DeSantis killed his own political career.
DeSantis was owned by Big Donors. (Emphasis on was.) When DeSantis parroted the Big Donors messages and fell in the polls, the Big Donors left. This tells me one thing. DeSantis is not his own man and he is unprincipled. Second to that, he never had a real job in his life. He’s sucked from the teat of the American taxpayer all his life. That’s a sure sign that he is completely out of touch with Americans that work of a living. Lastly, he’s managed to piss off a majority of the MAGA base. That shows he IS definitely out of touch and just a piss poor politician that is damn stupid. I no longer vote for politicians for President. I no long vote for life long lazy ass government employees that never had the guts, ability and perseverance to make it the real world. They turn out to be just as bad as Democrats. Ron DeSantis will never receive my vote.
Charisma matters and so do political instinct. DeSantis has NEVER. Has the personality of potted plant is totally out of touch with the average voter.
Worse, he's a flip-flopper on a level with Mitt Romney, who has sold his soul the GOP donors and establishment.
Not at all surprising is that his only supporters here are neocon nimrods, most of which are likely Republican operatives or have some ties to the defense industry.
Get this through your skull -- you will get on the Trump Train or GET RUN OVER BY IT. It's Trump or communism in 2024. Make your choice.
This fight ultimately is far greater than defeating Biden or Democrats. This is about whether we have party that represents the base and people, a representative republic as the Founders intended, or an oligarchy run by rich GOP donors that have bought off politicians. Literally, the republic is at stake.
I do not believe he’s the better anything. The dude gives off a very weird and unnerving vibe. Hes hiding his true self. You see the weirdness come out when he lets go of the control and its very socially awkward.
I don’t trust him not to let the J6 political prisoners rot away in prison.
Don’t fret...you must feel like I did when Cruz lost. I had written in Cruz’s name on the ballot.
Look at it this way:
You are not crazy about President Trump. Neither was I, BUT let’s face it...HE GOT THE JOB DONE ONCE AND GOD KNOWS WE NEED SOMEONE WHO CAN GET IT DONE.
I cannot tell you how disappointed I was when Trump, Who I felt was...my word... a buffoon...and I came not only to accept Trump as a serious/humorous person, but now I know that HE IS A FREAKIN’ GENIUS.
I LOVE PRESIDENT TRUMP AND AM GRATEFUL THAT I LIVED WHILE HE WAS PRESIDENT. THAT’S HOW MUCH I HAVE CHANGED.
Just sharin’ my personal view. Hope I don’t offend you.
There is only one way Trump loses the election. Through fraud.
You post a lot of disinformation.
No, I don’t. But just for discussion, what are you talking about?
Trump helped make the corrupt political landscape. He supported Fauci’s lockdowns and national mail-in ballots. Without Trump’s invaluable assistance, Biden couldn’t have stolen the 2020 election.
In my opinion, Trump is a bad man who did a very good job as President until his Covid disaster. Trump was correctly found liable for sexually assaulting E. Jean Carroll, and his recent treatment of Ron Desantis has been even more disgraceful than that. And, God help us all, Trump is still much better than Biden.
Trump is the only Republican Biden can beat in 2024, which is why the Rats are assuring Trump’s nomination with an avalanche of indictments. It really is true that the Democrats are the evil party and the Republicans are the stupid party.
A lot of pro-DeSantis people have said, “Go look at the September ‘07 polls! Hillary is beating Obama by 33 points!”
So I did.
This poll was an outlier. In most polls, Hillary is beating Obama by 15-20 points.
Trump is up over DeSantis in almost all polls by 30-40 points. No outliers. And DeSantis is falling.
It sucks, I agree, but it is sadly clear that GOP primary voters have made their choice.
I am nowhere near confident that Trump can win. And maybe DeSantis couldn’t win either.
But Trump is the dude we are going to be saddled with.
Trump was arguably the greatest President of all time. That means he IS the better man. Nothing against Ron though he’s an easy 2nd choice.
And your comment about the E. Jean Carroll case tells me you don’t know even the simplest facts of the case, you’re delusional, or both.
He was NOT found guilty of rape.
People who think as you do, make me sick.
I think devere is a woman. It reads like a woman.
