Ron DeSantis is the better man. But the nomination now belongs to Donald Trump
09/08/2023 | Drew68

Posted on 09/08/2023 9:20:57 PM PDT by Drew68

It is highly unlikely that Governor DeSantis will win the GOP nomination. The recent Wall Street Journal poll has cemented this into my head.

Yet, I'm sticking with DeSantis until he's out of the race, whether that be on Election Day (unlikely) or he ends his campaign during the primaries (as of now, quite likely).

I'm sticking with him because nobody else has the record of conservative accomplishments and stalwart executive leadership that he has repeatedly demonstrated. I look for action, not words.

This being said, Governor DeSantis has showed himself to be poor campaigner. He just can't close the deal. And as much as I enjoyed the victories, I think his "war on woke" has hurt him.

The best chance he has now is to pivot to economic issues, which are Trump's strong points (at least for the first three years of his administration). But Florida has a booming economy as well, with a record $22 billion surplus last year.

This pivot will be a long shot and is unlikely to be successful because he would be going up against President Trump's strongest attributes.

This will be an election on the economy and when gas prices at the pump exceed $6-7/gallon next year (and I believe they will), Trump will remind us all that we were paying under $2/gallon for much of his first term. This is going to be a big selling point. If Trump screwed up everything in 2020, he had a booming economy with plenty of jobs and low interest rates prior to that. This can't be denied.

I am resigning myself to the reality that the primaries are essentially over and Trump will be the GOP nominee. And if he is, I will vote for Trump because at the end of the day, Trump is better than Biden. Hell, Nikki Haley, Chris Christie, Tim Scott, and Vivek Ramaswamy are better than Biden!

It's a shame though. GOP primary voters would rather be led by a cult of personality than a true executive leader with a record of accomplishments. It is what it is though.

I hope Trump can pull it off. His victory will depend on Biden voters staying home.

I hope that Trump can learn from his many mistakes and not repeat them.

I hope Trump can reconcile his disastrous record on COVID.

I hope that Trump can beat back against the myriad of unjust charges that he is currently facing.

Still, Ron DeSantis is the leader that Trump tries to be and that's the truth.

And when he keeps bashing DeSantis with lies, it only shows Trump as the sad, little man that he has become. He should as of now, stop being be this sad, little man.

I hope Trump can rise above this. As of now, he will earn my vote, but he needs to become a better man.

It is incomprehensible to me how so many people on the right STILL believe the national polls when they have a history that proves they are ALWAYS wrong.

They were wrong in 2008, 2016, 2018, 2020, 2022, and they are wrong today, because they are not conducted to reflect public opinion, but to shape public opinion.

In an election year, polls are only used for propaganda to try and sway the electorate. And it appears that their propaganda has worked on you.

You have to look at the internals of a poll to find out how accurate or inaccurate it is, and this latest WSJ poll is an utter scam.

The WSJ hired a PAID TRUMP POLLSTER, Tony Fabrizio, to conduct their poll!

Their poll is based primarily on “registered” voters which is never an accurate way of determining a poll. And the “likely” voters is only 300 when you need a minimum of 800 likely voters to be anywhere near reliable.

Although 50% of voters consider themselves Independent, their poll showed only 13% as being Independent, which is absurd.

Inside their poll it showed that 47% of primary voters “Could change mind and vote for someone else.”

Stop believing the RINOs at the WSJ because they’re trying to discourage DeSantis and his voters because they consider him too conservative.

I strongly disagree Trump has the momentum. He has no ground game whatsoever and DeSantis has a massive ground game in Iowa and New Hampshire. And he’s going to win these two states.

I think you completely misunderstand Trump’s MAGA base. It’s true that the four indictments have only served to strengthen my support of Trump, but it has nothing to do with “sympathy.” It has everything to do with a steeled resolve to support a candidate who has been so disruptive in a corrupt political landscape. And the indictments are glaring symptoms of that corruption.

There are three key measures of the man’s legacy, in my book:

1. He has attracted the hatred of every political figure who is an @sshole in my book.

2. He’s probably the only President in history to leave office less wealthy than he was when he was inaugurated.

3. He doesn’t need the sh!t he is dealing with, but he’s back for more.

I want four more years of this man’s leadership because we won’t see another one like him for at least a hundred years.

It's not over until its over.

Reno, I love Governor DeSantis as much as you do. I really wish things were different.

And maybe they will be.

But probably not.

I looked into that WSJ poll and that sealed the deal. I looked into the metrics and as much as I love to dismiss polling that I don't like, that poll spelled it out plainly.

Trump is going to win handily the nomination and because "Bidenomics" is in shambles, he might actually win re-election, which is a reality that I have dismissed previously.

The "Trump cannot win" argument was the biggest ace in the sleeve behind my support for DeSantis, but I no longer believe this is true.

Trump will win the GOP nomination and he might actually win re-election.

So where does that leave us DeSantis supporters?

Suppose you were a soldier about to go into a hard battle and had a choice of whom to have as your captain. Would you pick and then follow into combat the new fellow just out of OCS, with a pleasant manner, clean uniform, and unblemished record? Or would you choose the grizzled old veteran, who has a reputation and can set his own men grumbling at times but surely hates and scares the enemy?

No matter what one wants to say about Trump, he surely knows how to fight and scares the Left. Like most of the GOP base, I want Trump to carry the GOP banner in 2024 and to fight our way back to the White House.

The ‘real world’ will melt DeSantis like candle wax and make a decoration out of him. Lawn-chair DeSantis has never seen a fraction of the aggression shown to Trump, and DeSantis ‘needs’ to be liked.

Yes, for the moment it is Trump, but take heart in seeing that DeSantis does equally well withing the margin of error against Biden. If Trump gets the nomination, which I doubt, he’s unlikely to win the election, even against Biden. So, DeSantis, if not in 2024, he’ll be first up for 2028. So, for DeSantis supporters? Patience. Not much else we can do. It is what it is.

I wouldn’t vote for him ever. He’s showed himself to be an arrogant, selfish, self-serving opportunist

"I think that the 4 indictments have won Trump an impenetrable sympathy vote among Republican voters. "

Yeah, don't even mention that the 2020 election was stolen, but instead claim it's the indictments that are causing people to support Trump. Get real.

DeSantis bad on his feet / bad at extemporaneous speaking.

Not too good on a teleprompter either.

And he appears uncomfortable around the people whose vote he is seeking.

But other than that . . .

2024 is not business as usual - the 2020 election was stolen, and we should all be outraged.

The spectacle of Republican zombie elites slow walking the party through the typical primary and debate process, as if this was a normal election is nust pathetic.

Weighing the pros and cons of lesser Republican candidates, when the rightful winner is willing to put himself out there, at great personal cost - this is insanity.

It has to be Trump - there is no other way to make things right.

On top of that, he is obviously the best man for the job, by light years.

So you still believe that desantis, who

regularly lies about various things.
has lied and jerked around the voters of Florida and the rest of the country about “I’m not a cadidate”
corruptly and deliberately planned to launder campaign funds and break FEC rules and regulations

and many other things that shows he has no morals or character, is the better man?

wow, to your standards....

I liked what I knew of DeSantis, and was expecting that given the mess we are in that he would “team up” with Trump to help lead the country out of this attempted commie takeover...hopefully giving us 12 years to try to right the ship. And then, he didnt.

So why did I read yesterday that DeSantis lied about his interaction with a gold star mom and said that her son died from a drug overdose. When it was not true.

The last two lawyers to win the Republican presidential nomination were Bob Dole and Gerald Ford.

You’d be hard pressed to find a worse group of insufferable losers in national politics than Republican lawyers.

Certainly not a military lawyer whose biggest job was advising the members of the military, how not to offend our enemies on the battlefield.

I don’t agree that Desantis is a poor campaigner. I think that the 4 indictments have won Trump an impenetrable sympathy vote among Republican voters. In my opinion that is bad judgement by those voters, and we all will pay a heavy price for it.

I don't disagree. But the truth is, the indictments have only made Trump stronger.

Thank Alvin Bragg.
