I would do a bulletin board commemorating those lost on 9-11 on the 1st of September.
The whole school would participate in putting the name of a person killed on 9-11 and taping the name to the wall in a continuous chain down the school hallways.
I pray that we NEVER FORGET!

Remembering what I was doing 22 years ago today.
Had just dropped youngest son off at the school at 5:30am for his 6th grade trip to the valley.
Came home, turned on the news to see the 2nd plane crash into the tower.
World was turned upside down!

With today being the 22nd anniversary: Where were you on 9/11?
I’ll start. I’d begun freshman year of high school. Saw a crowd around a TV in Vice Principal’s office — one of the World Trade Center buildings on fire. Skipped my 1st class ever & watched 2nd plane hit on live TV.

I’ll never forget: I was a senior in high school. First announcement came after 2nd period. Then they made another after 3rd period. I don’t ever remember news getting announced in 12 years of school other than that. By 4th period, we were just watching TV.

On the air, began broadcasting after first plane hit, stayed on until noon and then came back. I’ve never listened to the tape but pretty sure I thought 50K had died and I’ll never forget trying to describe it in real time to folks in their cars.

4th grade, day actually started in the school yard before the bell, learning a then-very close friend had been diagnosed with brain cancer (at 9/10 years old). Had new teacher in her second week. Principal who also just started that year went room to room to explain what was happening and say turn on the TVs if you want. Half the kids in the school had parents who work in the city, everyone was a bit freaked out. By the time we hit lunch, more than half the kids had been picked up to go home. No actual work got done that day.
When I got home at the end of the day, I finally started really understanding the scope of things when Food Network wasn’t available on TV, just a pseudo-test pattern. But I also had felt a bit zoned out, not really understanding what my dad did for work, I had just kind of assumed he worked in the city, and couldn’t be told anything different until I saw him come home that night.
