The Moon Landing: Stanley Kubrick's Greatest Film: How NASA and Hollywood Fooled the World (Video)
The Why Files ^ | 07/20/2023 | Why Files

Stanley Kubrick is considered one of the greatest filmmakers of all time. Of his 13 movies a few are considered classics in their respective genres. Including the black comedy Dr. Strangelove, the highly-quoteable anti-war commentary of Full Metal Jacket, and one of the most disturbing horror films of all time, The Shining.

But in 1968, Kubrick released "2001 - A Space Odyssey". This is more than a classic. It's a masterpiece. And widely regarded as one of the best science-fiction films of all time, and probably the most influential.

This collaboration with science fiction author Arthur C. Clarke tells the story of an alien intelligence that visited Earth in the distant past, and left behind artifacts in the solar system.

The movie (2001 - A Space Odyssey) features ground breaking special effects, which still hold up today.

In fact, the effects looked so good that the movie gave the American Government an idea.

Billions of tax dollars were invested in the space program but the Soviets were still years ahead of the United States.

NASA desperately needed to get to the moon before Russia, but they knew it was impossible. So they turned to one of the World's Best Filmmakers for help. Because when it came to the moon: if they couldn't make it, they'd fake it!

Six 3-man crews would disagree

Oh, really? You consider that proof, something everyone should believe in, from 18 well-compensated government employees?

And how many people in the DOJ and elsewhere in government--many highly educated and well-compensated lawyers--worked on fictitious claims of probable cause that Trump colluded with and was a compromised tool of Russia? Dozens? Hundreds? With thousands if not millions of believers in tow? How much were such false representations worth absent real evidence?

Consider the evidence in this post..

Though you say, "The reason we've not been back [to the moon] is the cost and a lack of political will," an official NASA spokesman, shuttle astronaut, and Ph.D in chemistry, freely spews lies to say otherwise:

Unlike so many posts on this thread, I believe posters on FR should debate ideas using evidence and sound reasoning.

"Star Wars I" is far and away the greatest science fiction film of all time and is certainly the most influential, having spawned scads of sequels, antecedents, TV shows, books, comics, video games, etc. I did not like "Space Odyssey" when I first saw it in 1968.

By the time the movie came out, we were way ahead of the Soviets in the race for the moon. I saw the movie in the theater about the time Apollo 8 was orbiting the moon.

By this logic you cannot believe almost anything in history with any sort of certanty.

Circumstantial and factual evidence is required by to make a verdict

By what means did you learn about the Van Allen Belts?
Did the knowledge come to you in a dream? Spiritual Vision? Osmosis?
Or, did you perform research from an outside source?

No, his knowledge appears to have come from the movie "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea." You can watch the trailer here.

Yes and there was also no way for Kubrick to do any real zero-gravity scenes, unlike in the movie Apollo 13 which used the Vomit Comet. Really the special effects in 2001 were very bad, and yet the videos from Apollo 11 hold up to scrutiny even today. It’s just ridiculous.

Some 30 years ago, when I was half my present age, I was working a software navigation tool development for the crew of space shuttle STS-51. As a guest of the astronaut core, I was asked to join a dinner party with the crew and Hoot Gibson, lead astronaut at the time. An unexpected guest at dinner turned out to be Charlie Duke, one of the moon walkers. I was pretty much a fly on the wall for most of the conversation but it was still quite an experience to be in the presence of such a legend.

The ignorant comments by some here on this forum are sad. That is all I can say about such ignorant posters, when compared to the giants and heroes who make this country great. Feel free to crawl back under your rock.

blind belief over reason poisons the mind and gets rid of healthy skepticism. I suggest you don’t understand being open to information and being possibly wrong on stuff you except as fact.... yes, I favor the moon landing as happening and yes I am open to being wrong on this fact because a lot of the info I have comes from trusting a source not actually looking into it myself.

I think some of these "moon landing was a hoax" people are not ignorant.

I think some of them are deliberately, willfully, knowingly lying with malice aforethought.

Did Kubrick fake all of the Apollo moon landings?

Billions of tax dollars were invested in the space program but the Soviets were still years ahead of the United States.

NASA desperately needed to get to the moon before Russia, but they knew it was impossible.

Soyuz 1 was a disaster, so the Soviets pushed back their space program. If we weren't in the lead before that, we were afterwards.

STS-51? Low Earth Orbit (LEO)? No problem. Same as it was for the Apollo missions.

Two claimed "moon rocks" that were tested were shown to have originated on earth, and were therefore, pre-meditated NASA lies. One was a portion of a petrified tree.

I note you didn't address yourself to any of my (or cgbg's) evidence, choosing to rely on a personal anecdote and a similarly person slur against the me. That's your evidence-free MO around here, just as you insultingly responded to cgbg's cogent link in post #24, https://www.aulis.com/investigation.htm that contains much irrefutable evidence that the moon landings were (all) a hoax.

Without solid evidence you simply rely on put downs of others who present sound evidence and reasoning. You've shows your lack of mettle, sir!

I have my own astronaut anecdotes. I rubbed elbows with Jim Lovell on multiple occasions and found no legendary greatness to speak of in the man. Here, from a photo I took at a pilot event:

I showed Armstrong's Apollo 11 boots and that they didn't match his supposed first imprint on the moon. (And no, there was no wardrobe change or "strap-ons.") I showed that no boot print in lunar regolith would cohere as the famous picture "evidenced." I showed that the entire series of "lunar" Hasselblad photos that showed a starless lunar sky were ALL FAKES as none showed any stars while the Chinese mission "somehow" showed the full panoply!

To get humans through the Van Allen Belts safely (for the first time--note Astronot Edgar Mitchell, Sc.D., Ph.D. averred in a post-Apollo interview that he had never even heard of the Van Allen Belts) future Orion missions will rely on very thick shielding, necessary to protect both humans and electronic equipment. It goes without saying Apollo missions had only very sparse tin foil (how apropos!) shielding, as seen in the image above.

Note in the captions below the following two images that NASA admits that astronauts and their vehicles cannot go farther than the ISS (LEO) at this time:

For realism Stanley Kubrick insisted that they film it on the moon.

Jan presents herself has an expert on the Van Allen radiation belts, but appears to know nothing about them.

You seem to present yourself as an expert, as well.

My question remains. By what means did you gain expertise in this area?

blind belief over reason poisons the mind and gets rid of healthy skepticism.

To refer to my belief that the Moon landings happened as blind belief is an absurd statement. Thousands of people were involved in it and the run up to it. All documented from private companies and people. It is actually IMPOSSIBLE it did not happen. Every piece of verifiable evidences states as such. There are moon rocks, footprints, lasers, astronauts, eyewitnesses, etc...

because a lot of the info I have comes from trusting a source not actually looking into it myself.

How do you trust anything? 99.99% of your daily life is trusting a source that you have not actually looked into. From traffic lights to keys in doors to your house not collapsing on you while sleeping, to believing the sun will rise in the morning. How do you live with such uncertainty? I think your political and personal outlook determines the veracity of your skepticism because you probably don't have the same level skepticism on what you wish to believe which probably has an even lower level of corroboration and evidence than the Moon landings.

All debunked on Mythbusters - (not even that great of a show)

I cant speak for NorthMountain, but as for myself, I have a masters and engineers degree is Astronautics and Aeronautics. I studied space environment (which includes the Van Allen Belt physics) in graduate school. I had experiments fly on space shuttle missions where theoretical effects of the belts on charged particles from an ion emitter were verified by experiment. I have studied the belt radiation effects and accumulated dosage on solar arrays, electronics, and shielding. The belts trap highly charged particles and spending lots of time in them can cause radiation effects, but passing through them to get to the moon or mars or anywhere else is not fatal, and can be mitigated by shielding.

Ignorant people who are here to disparage those who are educated in these matters are no better than the ignorant people who disavow the great history of our nation. You might as well be a zombie.
