Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis sat down with "Special Report" on Monday for a wide-ranging interview, offering insight into whether former President Donald Trump can win in a general election.
DeSantis said he doesn’t believe Trump can win in 2024 because there are "too many voters who just aren't going to vote for him going forward."
"I saw it in Florida in my re-election. You know, I won the first time by less than a percent, second time by ‘20. Why did people vote against me in ‘18 but then voted for me in ‘22? The number one reason they gave was because of Trump."
"Because in ‘18 they said that they were voting against Trump. Voting against me, to vote against Trump, even though they didn't know much about me," he said. The Florida governor handily won re-election in November 2022, defeating Democratic candidate Charlie Christ by nearly 20 points.
DeSantis also told host Bret Baier that Trump can’t win crucial states like Georgia and Arizona in a general election.
"The polls that come out… I beat Biden in Georgia. Trump doesn't. I beat Biden soundly in Arizona. Trump doesn't. Those are just the realities," he said.
"And I also think in terms of the base, you need to have a cadre of personnel. If you want to slay this administrative state, you've got to be disciplined, you've got to be focused, and you've got to have people surrounding you that are going to go and support the mission. I think the former president would have a very difficult time getting the type of personnel to join the administration that you would need to actually bring this stuff to fruition," he continued.

Trump is not leading anyone to civil war . That’s ridiculous!
The media stirred up the democrats as soon as he announced he came down the elevator. I’m sure you recall the riots after he won? Had the media stopped stirring the pot by telling lies, most of this chaos about him by the public would never had happened.
Once again, the revenge is deserved by going after the corrupt and criminals in the govt, ie draining the swamp. I pay so. This has nothing to do with going after the public. If there’s a ‘civil war’, look at the media once again. Not Trump.
DeSantis cant win either. The fact is with out election security , the GOP wont win. Trump however , in a legit election would wipe the floor with any and all comers. Thats just reality.
Trump’s desire for revenge is a great impetus to drain the swamp. I think if any of us had been through what he’s been through, we’d be vindictive as hell.

I asked conservatives, to a person they feel Washington DC is the problem, government is big and out of control. That’s not revenge, that’s people seeing a problem. Currently in Washington, there are Democrats, Rhinos, a maybe a few honest conservatives who are not in charge. Trump is a vehicle to change in a corrupt and intrusive federal government. DeSantis, whom I respect, is not change. DeSantis is more globalist, Rhino friendly than Trump, but he will not change or control Federal government. His support comes from the less than 20% of Republicans who profit from the corruption and kickback schemes of DC. DeSantis can’t win because he is establishment friendly.
To those that say Trump is leading to Civil War, I say completely not true. Washington DC, the Federal Government, is leading a march towards civil conflict. They no longer serve the people, they serve themselves and leave the people with the bills. Voters no longer matter, only ballots.
When DeSantis finally realizes he can’t win until he gives plans to fix FedGov, he and his donors will turn on conservatives. DeSantis agrees to do something, he looses his high dollar donors. He is trapped, IMHO, by who he chose to be supported financially by.
DeSantis is successful in Florida because limited taxation has prevented out of control government in Florida. I wonder if he could run NY or California?

Wishful thinking by the greatly reduced # of Trump supporters doesn’t change the reality, especially in key swing states.

This is exactly what is going on here at FR. I voted for Trump (really), you voted for Trump, he voted for Trump, she voted for Trump. So we (especially the Trump faithful) are living in this artificial existence where we ALL like Trump to one degree or another. So this feeling develops that everyone in the country or a majority must also like Trump.
I don’t see it that way. I still see the left, moderates, most minorities and most women dislike Trump. It’s going to be hard to win without about 1/2 of them. That is the advantage with a Desantis type—not that he is deep state that he appeals more to the middle.
