It’s looking as if the system will not survive profound industry changes.

One change is streaming video, which pays content creators a fixed price with no downstream benefit if the product becomes popular. The other is AI, which can study the garbage shows that have been produced over the last five or ten years and produce identical garbage. AI writes without ego or pay, making it perfect for the studios, which are guided by leftist politics, pedophilia, immorality, and money.

In response to a disastrous drop in revenue because of these factors, Hollywood writers have been on strike. Recently, the actors joined them. Both are pushing back against the studios. Looking at Hollywood’s content, this is one of those strikes we all wish would see both sides lose.

Having said that, there are many good people who will be hurt if Hollywood implodes. While the public faces of Hollywood are leftist, the people who provide the infrastructure support (all the names that whiz by at warp speed as a show’s credits roll) are often conservative. And, of course, there’s the whole L.A. economy that’s also dependent on Hollywood wealth.

The sad fact is that change always leaves victims in its wake. We never mourn the wheelwrights and carriage makers who fell by the wayside when the car came along because the car was, and is, a much more democratic and effective means of transportation. In the same way, while every good person who loses a job or income if Hollywood fails is a tragedy, the fact is that it’s better for America if Hollywood circa 2023 is no more.

The market is ripe for a streaming channel that produced shows exclusively for Legacy Americans.

Michael Reagan is quoted as saying that Hollywood is one generation ahead of America in its immorality. Where we are now, they were in the early 80’s.

Oh dream on. Hollywood is fine. All the major sports leagues are fine, unfortunately, but you people just can’t give up your worship of other humans bouncing and throwing balls.

It is hard to understand why the writers/actors would strike now.

Hollywood/TV networks have not recovered from the COVID shutdowns and restrictions. They lost a lot of money and new programming. TV schedules had to be padded with reruns and unscripted programming.

A lot more streaming is coming from outside Hollywood. Streaming services probably find it much cheaper, too.

The strike now just seems ill-advised.

Nice find, thanks for posting.

The author makes the point that the existing Hollywood system is being challenged by new licensing as a function of technological advances. This has, of course, happened before: consider the sea change that took place when silent movies became "talkies". We now have CGI replacing location shots and sound stages, and AI-generated scripts loom hugely on the horizon.

But there's more to it than this. Remakes of remakes are bad enough, but when old content is rewritten to conform with a smothering ideological sameness and presented as something creative and daring, you know the well has run dry and they're selling mud as water. Disney is perhaps the worst but by no means the only example. The portfolio of film classics generated by the Soviet Union is mighty slim. There's a reason for that.

Hollywood hasn’t produced much in the way of watchable / halfway decent movies since the mid 90s, when Braveheart won the Academy Award for Best Picture.

The stuff they crank out nowadays is absolute trash for the most part. There are a FEW watchable flicks, but very, very few.

Nah. Hollywood has been in “death throws” multiple times before. Mostly because they’re slow to see the change in the market. There’s a lot of franchise fatigue going on right now, which is why those guaranteed money makers aren’t. And of course they still haven’t really figured out the streaming market. But there’s still money being made, and the next “new Hollywood” will find its path and shift the market. Just like always.

I hope so. Hollywood is the hair growing out of a bloody mole on the butt of America which is Kalifornia.

There are few things that can continue unchanged for long.

The need for “entertainment” will continue with or without Hollywood. In what form this entertainment will exist is yet to be determined but in time Hollywood as it exist today will die out.

Technology already allows independent content makers to create and share what they create.

I can not predict where this is going, but can predict the times they are a changing.

It’s an angelic conflict with the minions of Satan spreading doctrines of demons. Let’s pray that Hollywood dies the inglorious death they deserve.
